Harness bar install.

Thisis the way to install the bar the easiest that I found. The one difference is that the bar that I choose was not cut [brace bar] which i9s for the ones getting shipped.
1]First thing to do is install the brace bar on the stub sticking
down.Their is a set of holes drilled and a supplied bolt to be
installed after you drill the hole THRU the stub bar.[done so you
can somewhat adjust to your height.
2]Now install the bar[make sure to have both of the seat belt
adjusters down [on pillar] and the seat belt bolt on the floor out
and the seat belt tucked away]
3]place the bar over the the stud sticking out on one side and install the nut[factory]LOOSELY!

4] do the other side the same way[may need some one to help
hold the bar up.
5]Once you have both ends on the studs slide the adjuster up till
the bar is even going across and is somewhat snug oupagainst
the studs.Remove one nut at a time, and install the supplies
washer taking care to make sure that it fitts OVER the sutd as
shown.

6] reinstall the nuts snugly.
7]Now install the brace bolt[were the lower attachment point is
for the seat belt] and tighten with factory bolt.

7]Once that is tight now tighten the nuts on the pillar.
8] Take a 3/8 drill bit and drill thru the stub shaft and install the
supplied bolt.ONCE you do that that is the final height of the bar
and it can not be changed without redrilling the hole.
9]Install your belts according to the manufacture.

Here is how close the bar is to the seat.

Harness Bar/Seat Belt install

Stan
Can the factory shoulder belt still mount on the end plate stub mounting point or is their enough room on the harness bar end plate to drill a hole to mount the stock belts? I need to keep driver and passenger belts functional. Thank you and can't wait for the bar!!!

The stock belts are retained on both sides.

This can help with tech also. If some tech weenie wants to hassle you about the bar/harness compliance, you can put the stock belts on also and maybe shut him up.

Well yes and know the bolt for the floor seat belt attach will need to be longer and a bushing installed so that you can use it with the bar.Pass side no problem since the strut bar is only on the driverside.stan
PS the black ones are done! red and silver will be done monday!Stan

Maybe I will wait for Tim's excellent "how-to" instructions
before i put mine on. I am so excited !!! My Dad will now get
off my back about harnesses....... Woot!!!

It's HERE !!! Woot !!!

And like all Stan's items, it is BOMBER !!!

Thanks, bud ... Off to the Garage !!!

Box worked well ... Arrived torn but all contents were safe.
Zip tieing the small parts was a stroke of genius !!!

Well, I did have to Dremel the Powder Coat off the stub bar, because
it wouldn't fit otherwise. I also noticed the seat belts ride right
over the sharp lower corner of the harness bar. This is not a
good thing, methinks.

Also, the length of the attachment bolts with the seatbelt anchor
on top only allows about half the threads on the nut to engage.

Do you think that leaving the washer out, or making a thinner
one would correct the situation?

I will take some pics later and post them.

It took about 30 minutes to install (Including a trip to Sears
for the correct size Torx (T55!)for the lower seat belt anchor!)

The slight loss in rearward movement of the seat back is OK. It
just feels strange at first.

Now to find some comfortable 6 point harnesses ... < grin >

It really was not designed to have the stock belts installed. What you can do is drill a hole in the harness bar plate and attach the seat belt thru that hole that way you would still retain the use of them.Stan

Ahhh ... Thanks Stan ...

OK ....

To attach the stock seatbelts is a bit tricky ... You need to
have a bushing that is 1/2" on the outside and 10 mm on the inside.
I found a nylon one that I could drill out that was perfect
at the hardware store. It's about a half inch deep and has a
shoulder on it like a bronse bushing does.

Anyhow ... I drilled a 25/64" hole after marking where the seat
belt would ride the best. There isn't a LOT of room there, fellas.

I think the belt clears pretty good now but I am still gonna have
the lower front corner of the harness bar ground down and
rounded off. :( There goes that "finished" powder coat look !!!

No matter where I try and mount it, it doesn't rotate enough
to let the belt smoothly slip through. But it does work correctly
once you get it fastened and adjusted. It just doesn't retract
by itself anymore because the bar actually limits the downward
movement of the attachment point on the bushing. It can't swing
down anymore than the bar lets it.

You can see the bushing thickness in this one ... The little plastic
covers even work.

Now I just have to get $600.00 together for the harnesses ... :)

SVT_KY,

Can you post a pic focused on the area of the stock seat belt retractor.

Thanx a bunch

This shot, but without the towel in the way. Can you move the seat forward and take a shot from the inside out. I have a bar already inside and just trying to plan a little. Thank you.
