June 2009 Gen 1 Truck(s) Of The Month – Congratulations Ray "lowmileblk93" & Blake "YellowLightning" Brady (NLOC#'s 2420 & 2123).
In observance of Father's Day this month we are featuring a father/son duo from the bayous of Louisiana. You can find these two burning up the roads on the Hotrod Power Tour, heading to a local track, wrenching in the garage, or on their way to a special event someplace...but the one thing you can count on is they will be doing the activity together. Ray has a super clean black '93 and Blake has a one of a kind yellow '94. Thanks for being a part of the Lightning community and congrats on being June's Truck(s) of The Month...Happy Father's Day!
1. What sparked your interest in the Ford Lightning?
Ray: When Blake purchased his Lightning from Bobby (BlueOvalForever).
Blake: The first time I saw one. I don't remember where it was but I knew I wanted one!
2. Do you have any interesting stories about previously owned vehicles, before becoming a Lightning owner?
Ray: I Had a 1972 Cuda. Had good times in that car. Sold it for a 1976 FORD LTD 4 Door when first child was born..
Blake: I have owned an '89 Mustang that I never built up. My first truck was a 1993 F150 with a I6. I built it into an Lightning "clone" before acquiring my now Yellow Lightning.
3. What modifications have you made to your truck since you have owned it...both show and go?

4. Do you have any interesting stories about your Lightning?
Ray: I wasn't really looking for a Lightning but Bobby told Blake if I want it to come and get it. I purchased it in April 2007 and it has been a project ever since. After owning the truck for 3 days I got a street racing ticket (after beating Bobby) while leaving the drag strip one night.
Blake: It did the long haul for the Hot Rod Power Tour in 2006 and 2007. In 2006 on the Power Tour the front seal of the transmission tore and started pouring fluid out. We were stuck in the town of Harlem, Georgia. A local had stopped and helped us out by giving us a few numbers to some local shops. The last shop I called decided to help us and we had it towed to Augusta Transmission Clinic in Augusta, Georgia. These guys had been in business for 3 generations and were FORD enthusiasts. The dad restored Shelby Mustangs to original condition while his sons built and raced a variety of Drag Race and Road Race cars for national competition. We picked a good place! We had arrived at 2:30 PM and were back on the road by 5:30 PM and finished the whole Tour all the way to English Town, New Jersey and back home to Louisiana. They had to rebuild the pump, valve body, and replace the torque converter. I would recommend these guys to anyone near them.
5. Tell us about yourself, your hobbies, business or work, sports, family, etc.
Ray: I work as a Reliability Technician for Cytec Industries for last 20 years. I like going racing at the track. I have been married 34 years and have 2 daughters and a son.
Blake: I am a certified Automotive Technician and also hold a degree in Architectural Design. Due to the economy I am currently a Mechanic at Tire Kingdom Inc. I have been bracket racing my truck since 2003 and have over 3000 passes as well as been down 8 different race tracks in 7 different states. I also won a "Wally" and "2006 King of the Track" at my local raceway.
6. How long have you been a user of the NLOC.net, when did you become an NLOC member, and why did you choose to become a member of NLOC?
Ray: Joined 9-12-07 because Blake said I had to.
Blake: I became a member a while back because its the cool thing to do.
7. What suggestions do you have to make the NLOC.net website easier to use and navigate?
Ray: It works fine, just read when I have time.
Blake: Its all good.
8. Why did you pick your board user name (screen name)?
Ray: When I bought the truck it had 52K miles. After talking about a few names we decided on lowmileblk93. It is #79 in 1993.
Blake: Because its a Yellow Lightning.
9. What are your plans for future changes to your truck?
Ray: This June the truck will make its 3rd Long Haul on the Hot Rod Power Tour. Also want to add good bed cover and bed rug, chrome stock wheels, and Ed's Mass Air kit.
Blake: Future plans are to eventually run NHRA Super Gas and Super Street classes.
10. This is where you link favorite websites, your website, family pictures and add any other comments.
Ray and Blake: Bobby (BlueOvalForever), Rob (Giddyup), Keith (Copperhead), Keith (Johnny#5), Corey (my94lightning), Ed (Struckby), Vern (Vern), and many others. Special thanks to all the people in the Lightning community we met at L-Fest.
