July 2009 Gen 2 Truck Of The Month – Congratulations Gus (Gus00SVTL) Aversa ! (NLOC #2228)

Gus is just starting out in the game of life but has already found himself the perfect hauler for his 2 wheelers ! A Lightning ! Wanting a vehicle to haul his motorcycles and having a love of trucks and going fast the Lightning became the perfect fit ! When he’s not roaming the pavement in the state of New Jersey with his Lightning he is flying high with his two wheelers. Naturally the addiction of personalizing our rides has affected Gus as it does all of us on NLOC. The Cervinis cowl hood and black powdercoated wheels let all those who see the truck know it’s not just another showroom stocker. The Hotchkis TVS gets the wheels closer to the fenders while Nitto triple 5 R’s surround the rears to get a grip on the road. The subtle ghost flames on the nose further sets the Lightning apart from the mundane, and just to make sure he knows it’s his truck, when the door is opened the floormats are personalized too ! Yep, it’s a chronic life long disease that affects the “car guy”. Gus will have decades to contemplate his “disease” of having a love of the automobile and his Lightning is a perfect fit.

Read on to learn more about Gus and his truck and join in the congratulations to Gus00SVTL and his Lightning !

1. What sparked your interest in the Ford Lightning?

I think the fact that my love for trucks and going fast was what really got me interested in the Lightning. And I also needed something to haul my dirt bikes in, too.

2. Do you have any interesting stories about previously owned vehicles, before becoming a Lightning owner?

My only other car is a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2... and I can’t think of anything interesting about it. Well, it does have an exhaust leak that sounds like a turbo spooling up!

3. What modifications have you made to your truck since you have owned it...both show and go?

Show:
Cervini’s cowl hood
Blue Pearl ghost flames
Black powdercoated stock wheels
Ford tonneau bed cover
Floor mats that say “Gus” on them haha!

Go:
Hotchkis TVS
Magnaflow catback exhaust
90mm MAF
JDM cold air intake
6# lower pulley
SCT Xcalibrator 2 Tuner
Nitto NT555 up front
Nitto NT555R out back

4. Do you have any interesting stories about your Lightning?

Hmmm... I was wondering when this question was going to come up. So I was on my way to school one day with two of my friends in the truck sitting next to me. I’m sitting at a stop sign waiting for cars to pass so I can make a left turn. Now, the road I'm trying to turn onto is a blind hill so I can’t see if the cars are going to be coming over or how far they are away. So I assume it’s clear and I make the left turn. Very, very, bad idea. As soon as I was in the turn a car came speeding towards me from the right side, and in a panic I just floored it. Well, the back end whips around on me and now I’m facing oncoming cars, so I correct it. I guess I “corrected” it a little too much and the back end went the other way on me. Right into a telephone pole... A younger police officer came and it turns out he was in an accident in the same place with the same exact pole. He told me to be more careful and thats it. I repaired the truck and its better than new now!

5. Tell us about yourself, your hobbies, business or work, sports, family, etc.

I graduated high school in 2007 and I have been working in a family owned sub shop since I was born. My family may not get along all of the time, but we sure have great laughs all day long! I love motocross, as do my cousins, and we always go riding together to different tracks around the area. Me and one of my cousins have CRF50’s. So, if were not tearing up the tracks with the big bikes, were pulling wheelies with the little ones!

6. How long have you been a user of the NLOC.net, when did you become an NLOC member, and why did you choose to become a member of NLOC?

I joined and became a member of the NLOC in 2006. I became a member because this place is loaded with great people and information! It’s the first place I go if I need to know something about my Lightning.

9. What are your plans for future changes to your truck?

I’d like to get clear corners, grill, and a sound system. Maybe do some more things to the engine but i’m really not sure what i’d like to do yet.

10. Whom would you like to thank for help\donations\support for putting the truck together?

I definitely would like to thank my parents! If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t have the Lightning that I have today, or a place to live... Also, Auto Body Contours for their sick paint jobs! JDM Engineering for their awesome work! And Tom’s Ford for their great service!

Sick truck man! The paint is wicked and I wanna do the same to my 99' wheels! The powdercoating looks great. Congrats on TOTM!

Congrats on TOTM Gus. Yours hobbies are the same as mine were back in the day except my two wheeler was a Honda Elsenor 250 (and we didn't do half the acrobatics I see guys do now a days) and my truck wasn't a Lightning of course (79' F-100 Stepside 4x4). I do like the powdercoated wheels, cowl hood and paint scheme on your L.

Thank you!
I would love to have an old Elsinore 250 to restore. Those were some sick bikes!

And thanks to everyone for all of the compliments! This has been a great month so far!
