Engine rebuild advice

Want to rebuild '01 Lightning engine.
Need advice on .. 'lessons learned' ...
Any help that would make a better rebuild without breaking the bank
e.g.:weak stock components that should be replaced, better design, better methods for rebuild, for a reliable
Also, Reputable So. Cal. rebuilder needed...any suggestions appreciated...

Better find a shop that knows modular engines. These are not your pushrod engines at all. Buy rods and pistons or buy a shortblock already built. Stock Lightning rods suck and are the weak link. Have it balanced also. MMR, Fox lake, Johnny Lightning or Livernois would be good ones to get parts from.

Buy all arp hardware also. If you didn't know the main, side screws, rod and head bolts are 1 time use only.

Buy a good oil pump also. One with Billet gears.

Def use someone that knows mods motors and also have ur tuner and engine builder speak prior to it all. The last thing u need is there both pointing fingers at one another and ur in the middle getting ****ed. U want good rods and good pistons. If I was u I'd buy a short block done and already figured out, gt500 short block and put whatever heads u want on it
