Can Someone please explain A/R for Turbos

In an abbreviated for dummies:

A larger A/R turbine housing will usually mean more top end flow at the cost of a slightly slow spool time.

A smaller A/R turbine housing will usually spool quicker, but will run out of exhaust flow up top sooner.

The A/R ratio is fully explained in the turbobygarrett site link above. It also relates to the size of the turbine wheel, so not all .96 A/R housings are the same size nor do they all flow the same.

Good point to bring up about the A/R being relative, Brian.

The 1.50 A/R turbine on my large frame turbo has probably 5 times the volume of the 1.31 A/R turbine on the T04 frame.
