There will be one. Info on route, motels, etc to follow around the June-July 2006 timeframe.

Start planning now on attending ! Get your piggybank out and start feeding it. Figure $2000 for a round trip, food, entry fees, fun, shenanigans, etc.

All route information and motel selection will be posted in this first thread. Check here for updates, changes, etc.

Route from Seattle: I-90 to I-82 to I-84 to I-80 to I-29 to Kansas City, MO

..........travelers, Meridian, Idaho, September 17th, is the first night's stop. A motel called Mr. Sandman Inn and Suites, 1575 South Meridian Road, and the rate is $51.00 for a standard room with a Queen bed. This is a special "internet only" rate and there is no guarantee how long it will last. You cannot book through the motel. I booked from the Orbitz website.

So, in the words of a long ago forgotten actor on a long ago forgotten TV show, "Book'em Dan'l !".

The motel is located on I-84 at milepost marker 44 and is on the righthand side of the freeway eastbound.

Any others thinkin' seriously on goin' you can book now and cancel before the actual date of reservation. Cancelations need to go through the booking agency tho.

Allrighty !!!!! Day 2, September 18th will be at the Howard Johnson Inn located in Evanston, Wyoming. Kim is who you will want to talk with and the room rates are: $42.99 for a single Queen room and $47.99 for a 2 Queen room. These are on a coupon which she promised she would have available for us at checkin. Call Kim @ 307-789-2220 (she's there 3PM to 11PM most every day) and book your room. Reference my name (Scott Cedergreen) as all are reseved under my name. 4 rooms are currently set aside and Kim promised more if needed.

The address for the Howard Johnson is: 339 Wasatch Road, Evanston, WY 82930.

Go to this website to have a look see at the Inn and it's amenities. Does have a connecting restaurant and Lounge too. Of course, high speed internet.

http://www.hojo.com/HowardJohnson/co...index?variant=

Fill in the info for the city and you'll come up with the motel. Looks to be a "decent" joint for the night.

Ogallala, Nebraska it is for the 3rd night travelers. We're staying at the Comfort Inn the same place as last year. Nice motel and surprisingly the rate is the same. 1 King or 2 Queens at (are ya ready ?)..................$45.20 ! You must speak with Sherry for the rate and all rooms (4and can get more if needed) are under my name (Scott Cedergreen) so once again reference my name for the rate. The phone number for the motel is 308-284-4028. Tuesday the 19th of September for Ogallala !

This 'ol place has a bonus in that across the freeway is The Golden Spur. Good old fashioned mid western steakhouse. Pails of peanuts on the tables, crack'em open and toss the shells on the floor. Da*n good steak too ! Beverages (beer) are cold and tasty as well. Website link for the motel so you can check it out...

Finally, the last night on the road is taken care of. It's a Sleep Inn in Syracuse Nebraska which is about an hour from the SAC air museum. It is also on state highway 2 and it makes a nicer way to intercept I-29 to get on into KC. KC from this point will be about 2 1/2 hours away.

Here's the deal. Room with 1 queen or 2 queen beds for $49.99. If ya ask for a king I think you'll get away with it for the same price ! I did !!! 4 rooms have been set aside and all are under my name, with more available if necessary. The manager's name is Toby, but he told me you can talk to anyone there. The rooms are set aside for us for the night of Sept. 20th. It's a newer Sleep Inn and of course the pictures make it look great ! We'll see when we get there !! Toby was nice to work with tho. He tells me there is a car wash nearby, and a real good restaurant that is a mom & pop type (my favorite) as well.

Here's the phone number to call and reserve your room. 402-269-2700.

Here's a link to the motel: http://www.sleepinnsyracuse.com/

Book'em Dan O ('l), whichever it is !?!

Hey Scott, just keep an eye on this thread. Around May of 2006 things will start taking shape. June and July and perhaps into August route, stops, motels, prices, planned site seeing, etc will be firmed up and you are welcome to join us at any point along the road.

Here's a link to our Grand Adventure from the Great Northwest from this year. It'll give you a feel for our trip.

If you want to read about more goofiness, go to the local chapters section and WashLo and look for our threads there on the Grand Adventure and you'll get an idea of what a "Grand Adventure" we had, to, at, and from L Fest.

Time for a review of the "Grand Adventure from the Great Northwest # 2

Sunday, Sept, 17th, leave our homes and gather together to travel to Meridian, Idaho. Couple of fabulous scenic points along the way to stop for photo ops and viewing the countryside. Have a time change to go through in eastern Oregon. Route is I-90 to I-82 to I-84 and on to Meridian. Will fuel up at exit 109 or 113 in Washington on I-82 to eliminate having to gas in Oregon (you can't pump your own fuel and I can't tell you how many times I've not gotten a "full" tank and/or gas spills, scrapes, etc with the gas nozzle from the "attendents").

Monday, Sept. 18th it's on the road to Roy, Utah to visit the Hill AFB air museum. After the tour there it's on to Evanston, Wyoming for the night. It'll be about and hour and a half to Evanston from Roy. No time change on this day. The air museum closes at 4:30 PM and we should be able to arrive by 1 PM. Plenty of time to view the aircraft and memorbilia. Should make Evanston by 5:30-6:30 PM Route will be I-84 to I-15 to Roy, UT and then pick up I-84 to I-80 to Evanston, WY

Tuesday, Sept, 19th. From Evanston, WY we travel over the Rockies, making a stop at the high point of the freeway at a rest stop/scenic. Again, it's fabulous views. Continuing on we come out of the Rockies and into the plains state of Nebraska. Nice rolling hills in western Nebraska that give way to farmland and flatness. Stopping at Ogallalla, NE for the night. Save up your appetites for this one. The Golden Spur is across the freeway from the Comfort Inn and it's GOOD eatin" ! Route is so simple Jon could lead this segment ! Stay on I-80 and drive east.

Wednesday, Sept. 20th we're off to see the SAC air and space museum between Lincoln and Omaha, NE. Have a time change to deal with again to get us into Central time zone. It's 300 miles from Ogallala to the exit for the SAC museum which is 5 hours easy, 4 hours at normal cruisin' speed of 80 (speed limit is 75). SAC closes at 5 PM so we can either leave at the normal time or leave an hour earlier to compensate for the time change. After the museum it will be about an hour and fifteen minutes to our motel for the night. Route is I-80 to exit 426 for the SAC museum. Then backtrack a bit on I-80 west to highway 6 then to highway 2 and on to Syracuse, NE (this final part of the route not firmly established)

Thursday, Sept. 21st. Gotta get them cleaned up for the drive in. Figure leaving Syracuse, NE by 11 AM with cleaned up trucks for the drive in to KC. KC from Syracuse, NE will be about 2 and a half hours. ETA to the Comfort Inn and Suites 2 PM. Time to get checked in, say hi to Dwight and Nan as well as get registered, and be able to watch the Texas convoy arrive as well as others. Route is highway 2 to I-29 in Iowa into Missouri. Pick up I-435 around the Northeast edge of KC to I-70 east and pull into the Comfort Inn and Suites headqarters motel for Lightning Fest !!!

3 days of pure BLISS !!!

Here tell, the 5-speed Gen 1 Lightning is gonna join the Grand Adventure from the Great Northwest....now ain't that just special.....:chacha: :chacha: :chacha:

Count me in!!!
Coming from the "Can't fuel my own dang truck myself state", from
North Bend at the edge of the Blue Pacific, I'll be meeting up with you guys in Meridian Idaho on Sunday the 17th!!! Looking forward to traveling in the company and "relative" safety and comfort of the WashLO gang from my "neighboring" state of, er Socialist Republic of, Washington State!!! Sure gonna be an adventure, especially for me a "First timer", but I'm primed and ready, (at least MENTALLY, or maybe I'm just Mental :screwy: for attempting this...), willing and able(?) :) Just 2 weeks to go and like most of you, too much to accomplish in a short time. I'll be checking in regularly to watch for any late developments and I'd like to thank you all for extending your hospitality, with special thanks to my friends Scott and Jean, as well as Dale for his unexpected generosity, Steve "SD" Stock for offering his masterful tuning experience to help get the "Lightning Stick" more roadworthy, as well as his offer contingent to Jon's acceptance, (thanks Jon  ), to let me "crash" at the event hotel room if necessary. You guys are helping make MY adventure possible and for that I cannot repay you. If it weren't for the opportunity to travel in your good company I seriously doubt I'd be crazy enough to attempt this trip alone...

C U Soon!!!
