The "cheering and partying" crowd on TV was about 20 people, mostly kids most likely coerced into happiness by lots of sugar.
On the other hand, the people protecting bin Laden said they wouldn't give him up until "the last drop of Afghani blood was shed" and part of me really wants to say, "Ok!"
But there are calmer heads in control, thankfully.
Honestly, from what I've read, it sounds like most of the Afghani people are terrified and would really rather give bin Laden up. It sounds like they're expecting the cruise missles to start landing at any moment. You think we're rattled, imagine the fear that comes from having a pissed off American war machine looking right through the sights at you...
