NMRA News Release

LightningFest info from the NMRA for IL

For the first time ever the Nitto Tire NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing (June 23-26, 2011) at Route 66 Raceway (Joliet, IL) will host LightningFest, the largest gathering of SVT Lightning and Harley Davidson F-150 trucks. “The National Lightning Owners Club (NLOC) and the National Harley Truck Owners Club (NHTOC) are excited to link LightningFest with the NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing,” stated LightningFest founder and organizer Dwight Dolliver. The event has drawn over 60 Lightning and Harley Davidson truck owners each year and NMRA and LightningFest organizers anticipate continued growth in 2011. “We are setting up a special pit area for the truck owners along with a 40’ x 20’ pavilion to serve as command central for the LightningFest activities,” commented NMRA CEO Steve Wolcott.

LightningFest participants will have special reserved parking beside the official event pavilion with easy access to drag racing and the special activities at Route 66 Raceway. In addition to the reserved parking, participants can choose from two racing categories. The first category is the Detroit Locker Truck and Lightning class, which is an Open Comp style category reserved strictly for trucks. A new racing class for 2011 has been dubbed Detroit Locker Top Truck and is designed for 7, 8, and 9 second trucks. A LightningFest show truck category has also been added to the UPR Products Car Show. NLOC is organizing a cookout for all LightningFest attendees.

“The NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing is one of the biggest street car events of the year and to host LightningFest is a thrill for us. The trucks add another aspect to the entire experience for the fans and participants,” inserted Wolcott. Dolliver summed it up best, “this year’s LightningFest is expected to be bigger and better, so all Lightning, Harley Davidson truck and Ford pick-up owners should come out and have some fun.”
