New to the lightning club

Hey everyone,

I picked up a white 95 lightning from a buddy in Topeka. It has pretty bad rust, bed is junk, I need a drivers side fender and when I yank the bed I’ll be doing a ton of rust removal/adding metal to get the frame solid. It’s pretty crunchy right now.

Truck runs well, it must have a shift kit because it will bark the rear tires on a 1-2 shift at like 50% throttle.

I can’t upload photos, I think the file sizes are too big.

Ultimate goal is to basically max out what the factory intake (I want to keep it) will be able to handle with a small set of heads and cam. Not sure what power number that will be but I’m hoping around 300.

Thanks,

Welcome and Happy New Year. Glad you're saving it. The Lightning intake will be plenty fine for quite a bit of power so no problem there, the biggest hurdle with these trucks is the factory computer, but just stay with a small speed density friendly cam (I believe LMR sells one) and you should be OK. If your photo is too big it will give you a specific error message. Let me know if you keep getting it.

I appreciate the welcome and info.

I think the photo is likely too big. I tried to upload directly from my phone and modern phones take massive megapixel photos.

Like Raymond said, the intake will be fine. It'll last you well past any cam the OEM computer can manage. It really only runs out of steam once you get up in the revs. The long runners limit the high RPM breathing.

I fully agree with Ray and Jeff … cough, cough …

Restore it to assembly line condition, or pretty close thereto, and keep it that way.

They run very, very well in that state, they’re easy to maintain, they’re a lot of fun and are quite the eye-catchers.

Welcome to the site! Congrats on Lightning! Great guys and lots of helpful info here to check out!
