LMR wheel center cap improvement

Like many have mentioned the LMR center caps have an issue with the black center falling off. After only 3 weeks on my truck one of mine fell off luckily while sitting in the garage. I found the other 3 were all coming loose. After inspection there is only double-sided tape holding them in place. Two types actually… it seems the black tape is very sticky, but that is what the caps are peeling away from. The grey tape underneath it is thicker, not as sticky, but took much more effort to peel off.

I decided plastic epoxy is worth a try so I peeled all the old tape off, scuffed the parts, and applied JB Weld Plastic Bonder to the surface of the cap. Then stuck on the black center and I also applied a “cap” of epoxy to the hole in the back of the cap to hopefully help keep them on. Let them sit with some weight on them to cure for 30 minutes. We shall see how much better this holds up!

I have found that using 3M's Adhesion Promoter for anything to do with adhering plastics makes a big improvement. Tape, epoxy, superglue, whatever.
