...live (well almost) from WFC ! The grandstands are full. The tuners and wrench turners are lining the fence watching their drivers. All the guys and gals are rooting for their favorites and this is just 2nd and 3rd qualifying rounds !! The air is full of race gas and tire smoke. Adrenalin is the word for today. What a bunch of race junkies we ARE !!!
Steve Colgan's blown head gasket was changed in the motel parking lot last night. Thanks to Lightning Bob for his truck and trailer, Steve's Gen 1 was brought back to the motel parking lot. Thanks to Lightning Bob, Vern, Dave, Jeff S., Bobby, Johnny Lightning, Brooks, Baby Jake, Speedin Bob, Willy, and numerous others for wrenching, offering encouragement, advice,or just observing. A cell phone connected to a mechanic in Washington state to get torque specs for head bolts, lower & upper intake bolts, and rocker arm bolts. Thanks to son Tom ! It was decided to do both sides and the passenger side head gasket was found to be in poor shape. The drivers side was blown at no. 7 & 8. At about 2 AM the heads were back on, torqued down, the lower intake was installed and left to set up overnight. Steve's truck was trailered back to the track this morning for final assembly. It's now alive again and running well from the track to the motel. Think he's ready to make the trip home to Ohio with some degree of confidence ! A GREAT BIG THANK YOU to everybody who contributed to getting Steve up and running !
As if workin' on his own truck most of the night and half of today wasn't enough the man fixed the most wonderful BBQ chicken dinner for all of us this evening ! Thank you Steve and the Mrs. !!!
Qualifying is over. Tomorrow it's all about gettin' the win light. After the smoke clears in the afternoon we'll see who gets the braggin' rights for the year for WFC 9 and who gets to put the bux in their pockets at the end of the day...
