Cleaning trans case, what to use

Does it ever end $$$$
I need to clean up trans case before painting it. What would be the best thing to use before painting it. Going to brush paint it with rustled. Its not greasy, just oxidation.

A buddy of mine used Awesome cleaner for dollar store put it in a big tub and dunked his heads in it covered and let sit a couple days came out looking like new.

I hate to contradict Billy, but aluminum and oven cleaner don't get along. Been there, learned that. It will etch the aluminum pretty aggressively. It's a strong caustic. It's great for steel and iron, though.

I'd just use a good engine cleaner/degreaser.

When I wash an engine block, I use a generous amount of dish soap like Dawn, in a bucket with hot water, and scrub it with a scrub brush and rinse with hot water. For the stubborn spots, I hit them with engine degreaser or brake parts cleaner.

I used a can of foam degreaser, hit it with the power washer. Used Alumibright let it sit soaked a second time power washed and it was super clean. She is painted black now.
