Anyone Color Sanded an L?

Like the title says has anyone tried this? How much does it help the paint's reflection? Obviously I plan to buff it out and wax afterwards. What does everyone think? Would I notice a difference?

I did and it made a huge difference. My '00 L had some nasty etched spots on the top surfaces from acid rain and what not so a clay bar was of no use. I used 2000 grit paper so as not to cut the clear too deep.

What is aproximate thickness on the cear on our trucks? I have been wanting to do it, but was afraid of the thickness (or lack of) of the factory clear.

I'll tell you from experience. The factory paint is not very thick. You will sand through to the base in a heartbeat.

You can wet sand it with 3000 grit sand paper and buff it, it'll look great.
