Sucks that it ended up being the ECU. As someone else said, it's rare for them to go TU so severely all at once. It's usually just a small driveability issue that gets worse with time.
If you want it to run correctly it has to be a Lightning ECU. If you just want it to run again probably about any truck ECU would make that happen. Trans functions would require an E4OD ECU. It may actually be driveable with a 302/E4OD ECU, but you would be a test pilot on that setup.
