LMR Gen 2 Repro's?

LMR has the 01-02 Gen 2 18x9.5 reproduction wheels on their site again for $1099! Is anyone here running these wheels?

  1. How is the fit on a lowered truck, especially the front? I had to run a 255-50-17 on the front of my 93 for proper clearance (27").
  2. Is the tire selection much better for the 18's compared to the 17's?
  3. What tire size would you run, like a 275-40-18 square, or 275-40-18 front and 295-45-18 rear? Brand?

I have a set I’m running (not LMR) and about to lower with the DJM 3/4 kit. I need new tires and wondering the same thing. I know the 305/45 R’s will fit on the rear with no problem but wondering about the front.

Are yours 18x9.5 square too? Mines a Bell Tech 3/5 but I think it sits a little lower. So a 305 will fit?

Yes it should. The rear tire / wheels are tucked in a little more than the front. I’m sure there is someone that can comment.

I'm running 305s on the rear of mine on the 20x10" wide repros and there's plenty of room.

May go with 315s next time if I can stomach the price difference.

Looks like the 18" Gen 2's are currently on sale for $999, which is pretty tempting! What's the argument for 18 vs 20"? What about weight and tire selection between 18 and 20's? The 18's must have an advantage in handling (shorter sidewall) and tire availability over 17's these days?

I've also found that Factory Reproductions has a 20x9 Gen2 repro in silver available for $1340. Is anyone familiar with this brand?

Call me weird, but I think a 20" version of the Makers Garage Reimagined Cobra wheels would look cool on a Gen1 if such a thing existed.

I’m over here waiting for those Gen2 guys to start asking what adapter they need to run those bad ass Gen1 wheels.

If there was an 18 or 20" Gen1 replica wheel I'd be all over it in a heartbeat. But since there isn't at least a Gen2 replica is still a Lightning wheel.

A guy who does a podcast with Adam corolla has a 1995 with custom 20" wheels that "look like factory" so I decided to see what it would cost to have custom 20" replicas made. Called a few that do that. $3000 a wheel is about what they all quoted. Whew! I would do maybe $3000 a set of 4 if they were perfectly sized for front and rear.

$12,000 for a set of 4 wheels?!? Whew, that is above my paygrade. I agree that $3k for a set of 4- 20" Gen 1 replicas would be fair and I'd probably do it too.

There's way more tire selection for the 20s. I was a bit leary of the 20s when I bought them, I definitely don't like the look of these oversized wheels that is the current rage. Billy Dunn influence my decision pretty strongly and looking at tire selection pushed it over the top.

Overall I think they look pretty good on a lowered Gen 1 and you can put a 315 on the rear with the wider wheels. I went with 305s and there's plenty of room for more.

Jeff did you have the wheels widened or do you have the LMR wheel's? I'm curious as I have a new set of the 03/04 Sportmachine 20" wheel's.

Also anything else that need to be done to run that tire size or the 315?

Well, they're down to $864 which is tempting. But tire size seems to be somewhat limited for 18's too since I need a 27-28" tire with my drop.
