It's a beautiful day....

....around 80 degrees today (Saturday) and really a very good recreation of the late '60's to early '70s'.

They're all here ! Well they are not "all" here but many are from the era. Butch "California Flash" Leal. Gas Rhonda, Shirley Shahan (Drag On Lady), Jerry Ruth, Hank Johnson, Don Prudomme, Don Garlits, Tommy Ivo, and on the list goes.

Nostalgia Top Fuel, Nostalgia Funny Car, A/FX, Junior Fuel, AA/Gas Supercharged, plus 2 index classes. No electronics allowed and all run heads up ! 32 Funny Cars for an 8 car field ! WOW !!!! For us "old farts" it is all to close to what it was way back when. For those that weren't there this is a GOOD rendition of how it was.....

Exhibition runs too with the original or recreated fuel altereds ! The Winged Express (Wild Willy Borsch), Rat Trap, Pure Heaven, Mondello & Matsubara, Panic, and on the list goes of those machines.

Hey, just take a look at a few of the pics....

This is great ! One more day in this time machine bubble then it's back to the 21st Century. Gonna do some more tourist things down this way then wander back home late in the week.

Yeah, I got a ton of pics but you only get to see a little fraction for now...

Hey Derek, I'm in Bakersfield, more specifically Famoso, or the Grove. Famous and historical drag strip throughout the '60's and '70's. Most all the junk here is from that era or constructed to be from that era.

Called the California Hot Rod Reunion put on by NHRA. It's impressive with all the cars here and the many additional cars that are not running but have been restored. They are all from the '50's, '60's, and early '70's.

Website fer ya....http://www.famosoraceway.com/

and here's another one fer ya....has streaming video and pics as well...http://www.bangshift.com/blog.html

Heck yeah they're having fun. I got an up date today on the mission he was sent on. He will report later on it in the skool buss forum. Lots of pictures, Scott has hundreds. They're like little boys in a candy store drooling all over everything. Sometimes they even get to see, meet, or talk to legends from their youth. Heck yeah they're having fun just like best friends should!

Yeah, Super Stockers, FX'ers, Gassers, and Fuel Altereds are my faves. Always enjoyed the competition coupes too (a dragster with a required body on it).

This is another of those items that needs to be on yer "Bucket List" if you were around back in the 60s or have a love of that era of drag racing.

Hey Kerry ! You need to head down to Bowling Green for that Hot Rod Reunion. This stuff is GREAT and I know you like this era of drag racing. Grab yer ol' man and make a weekend of it. Probably be more Super Stockers there and maybe a bunch of FX'ers.
