2.3 Whip Power Part Deux

Well, I've had a few mods sitting in the garage for a while, and with summer coming up, why not throw them on and have some fun....

It all started with a new set of CompCams. Although they were a PITA to install I was really pleased with the end result. All buttoned up, no leaks, nice sound, and the truck responded well.

And I managed to install some new tunes in the truck too...sorry, no pics of that stuff. Infinity Kappa's all the way around and a powered Bazooka sub.

After finishing all that stuff, I decided those cams needed something to compliment them...I thought a Whipple should do the trick.

Dale came over and supervised the tear down. He mentioned having to remove the tab from the blower belt tensioner..."just wrench on it and it will snap off," were the words he used. Something snapped and it wasn't the tab, lol.

The Whipple install was going pretty smoothly until I fired her up...the dowels were a tad long and the mid plate didn't seat right. I had to tear everything back down and start over.

After finishing the tear down, I commenced reinstalling everything right away and when I fired her up the second time, she had a high idle. It was too late and I was too tired to figure out the problem.

I got out there today and scratched my head, because I checked everything 3-4 times over and couldn't come up with a logical answer as to why it idles high...high being 1,400 rpm. Not to mention, I tore her almost all the way down a few times trying this and that with no luck. I did manage to drive her around the block and so far I'm really impressed...I'd like to see what she really can do when all the kinks are worked out.

I also managed to throw on that MP bracket as well. I'll keep everyone updated as to when she's 100%.

Huge thanks to Steve, Dale, and Jon...I couldn't have done this without you guys.

Yeah, on that tensioner that's the nightmare I had. I remember reading something about just smackin' the tab with a screwdriver or sumthin like that to knock it off. Just couldn't bring myself to do that so I took it off and sliced the tab off and cleaned it up. Yeah, ya can't even see it but......

Blower looks good ! So ya haven't been able to step on it yet but I'm wondering about boost levels with it. Know the upper is changeable to adjust boost. What do you have for a lower ?

Sure looks nice sittin' on top of that motor, thanks for posting the pics up so I can see what mine will look li........oh, I mean it really looks great !

My Killer Chiller will be here sometime this week......Phase II I guess, here we go....

My cams will have to await a forged short block. Doc, you need to come up to Startup.....

Scott, it wasn't the screwdriver that broke it(or the hammer)

Damn it Jeff

I forgot to switch the Intake Alignment pins with you! Sorry about that, I can only think of 1 think that might be causing that high Idle and that would be a vac leak somewhere! Looks good on there, I sure do miss mine I can tell you that!

I spent the morning with Steve trying to trouble shoot the high idle problem. We did this and we did that--still no luck with anything we tried. My only option now is to tear her completely apart/down and start from scratch...not something I wanted to do, but I'm all out of options .

Did you use HondaBond or a Stock Ford gasket on the mid plate?

P.S. turn the damned Maf 180 degree's!hehehehehehehe

Hey Jeff i know that you probably checked it but when i took my blower off of my cobra this winter i had the same thing happen with the idle. Come to find out i looked at some pics of my car and the engine bay and i had moved the maf slightly and it was making my idle go crazy. Once i put bakc in place it worked just fine.

Also are you taking this truck to the All Ford Drags next month?

Bernie, there is unmetered air getting in, I'm about 95% sure of it. Im hoping the mid or lower manifold isn't warped or cracked from the longer dowels

But it is going to need to come off for a complete inspection.

Check the Boot from the elbow to the Maf, if you tighten it down to hard it might very well be happening right there as well!

You would have to of reefed it pretty damned hard to warp the mid plate. I dont see that happening. I did the exact same thing when I installed mine, the Dowells where too large. I took mine to the machinist and had him make me some new ones!

Got an engine troll. Need help please.

I can't wait to get home to switch things around to see if it works. I'll report on the results tomorrow.

This should be interesting, Because I never had a issue with mine installed backwards. The reason it was in backwards was I thought it would be easier to change plugs with it in the other way, I had no ill effects so I let it ride!
