Hi Steve How Ya Been.
Oct-14-21 and 28 Sundays, at SIR.

LOL, I thought next years mods might include a new truck, just a rumor I heard.

You might have to take my hotrod for a spin, its in the 12.30's now and if my new chip works out it could be in the 12.20's.

Thanks guys , lets keep an eye on the weather, who knows we are getting in that season. Dale 12.3's you have been busy and up to something on that motor, and Rod is not telling. I'm thinking you could show those Eastcoast tuners a thing or two!!!!
Oh by the way, thanks for the advice on the iron head thing, believe it or not, I'm really looking serious at that way of going. I've seen some good exhaust flow #'s come out of some hogged GT-40's. Intakes seem to do good with a blower with mild cleanup even with that 1.84" valve. I certainly could leave some more $ in my wallet that way.

Hi Steve
Actually there was some engine work and I'm not sure if Rod even knew about it. I had collected a bunch of parts since about june or so. I installed the 2001' intake manifold and intercooler, a new Cobra water pump and put the electric fan back on and rewired everything for in-cockpit fan and intercooler pump control for much improved cool down at the track.

The manifold was mildly ported, wich means I only had to weld up 2 holes in it, LOL. I removed alot of metal around the injector bosses and cleaned up the runners, it opened up the ports alot.

When I finally got it back on the race track, it slowed down a little. 12.50's back to 12.60's but I dusted off and put in an old chip (2 months old) that was running too rich before and now all of a sudden it wants to run 12.30's. Oh well I'll take it.

Also Rod mentioned the Cal-Tracs, I had no choice but to put traction bars on it, the drive line was showing signs of hitting the pinion flange. I think one good launch and the driveline would have been snapped in two.
After the traction bars were installed and I learned how to do a better burn out, it nailed a 1.710 60' time.

As far as those iron heads go, fords usually has crappy looking valve seats. What I mean is they could be shaped better. That is the nice thing about installing oversize valves, now days with the new machinery they have its a simple job and with one quick cut they (the machinist) can completely reshape the seats and it does wonders for flow. So installing oversize valves is a win/win situation. Bigger valves and better shaped/better flowing seats. Past that the port job is relatively easy.

I talked to Sal today and it doesn't look like my parts are going to make it for this weekend.
See Ya
Dale

Thumbs up

It looks like we could have a dry sunday!! If we have no rain (unlike the last two sundays)I plan on going out for a run or two. I made a couple changes and I am unsure if they will work or not, I retarded cam timing (too kill a little bottom end and add a little up top)I also did a *little* tinkering with the chip.

I hope to see some of ya for some friendly competition.

I hear that! I was kinda PO'd after the last two weekends with dry Fri&Sat for it to rain on Sun. I guess they dont need the $$, not that you could tell by the condition of the place . I hope they get some mgmnt worth a sh!t for next year.

There was a show in speedvision last Sat called wheels of fire and they had some shots of SIR in the early to mid 70's. It hasn't changed . I wonder what they do with the $$$?

Dale, Sounds like you are dialing in on those low 12's.
What you are doing on your "L" is definately separating the men from the boys. Funny how you can hog out the intake and do a bunch of blue printing, not to mention all the time spent and end up slower. Then play with the chip and find 3/10's combined for all your work. Who's going to be the first guy to pull an 11 without the juice? My money is on you Dale.

What do you guys think about another dyno war sometime this winter, say after we all get the winter cabin fever?

Hi Steve
To tell you the truth I'm almost done with my truck. I still have some things I want to try (like an alcohol inj. system) if the truck runs an 11 that would be great. But I have another project that I have ignored for waaay to long and I'm starting to get the urge to work on it some more.

You might see me in a 69' fairlane cobra next year at the track. Its an original 428CJ car and I have all the parts for it, I just have to put it back together.

Another dyno day sounds good to me !!
See Ya
Dale

Dale,Larry ran in the 11.60s on sunday and nobody said anything to him.He said he changed the way he was launching. When he adds the exhaust and turbo he should be able to run low 11s easy.

Dale, Sounds like a stout prioject in the making, I still have to see Rod's Fairlane as well. It is funny as time passes those 60's Ford gets sweeter. I should of bought that 62 with a 406Tripower a few years ago,so nice. I snoozed on that one.

Rod and Bernie get me your 1/4 mile info and I'll get them posted over on the times and mod list.
