As much as I love Gen1s, I just can't imagine any performing better than a Syclone. Mini truck, lighter weight, lower to the ground, and AWD, it'd have to be pulling some good slalom times!

I've owned both and the Lightning handles better on dry pavement.

I found this surprising because I had a 95 L and it did handle nicely for the size, but I would think the Sy would come out on top. Where does it lack? I'd think it would take a turn like nothing.

I have only driven a 1st Gen L, so I am going to go out on a limb and say ANY LIGHTNING handles better than a SyTy....

I have to start working on that... I wonder how big the performance steering market is

What about on a tight course I would think the Sy would come out on top.

Where Y'at BackinBlk, I remember Super Ford did a road test at road course w/ the gen1 & GT. The L was only a tenth or 2 behind the GT. Thats pretty damn good for a 4500lb. Truck! Just for a rule of thumb, look for the skid pad G's. The autox or road race guys should know that. I'm sure a sy/ty guys will chime in with there g's.
When I'm talking about trucks I look to see what they can haul. L's haul *** & 5000lbs to boot.

This may be just a rumor.......but I recall someone saying that in 1993, Ford tested a stock 93 L against a stock 93 Cobra on a road course out west (Seabring or Willow Bend or ???) and the L won.

Maybe......maybe not.

Cool

Some magazine (I know, not gospel) got an incredible .90g with a supposedly stock Gen1. I cant remember the details, maybe someone else read this. Handling is one of the Gen1s strongest points.

well, i think on a "short track", the Sy might be better cause it is smaller and is AWD, so not having to deal with tailslide as much might be a big advantage,
I know both Sy and Ty G's were pretty damn high, especially the Ty for an SUV...
I dont really have any numbers, I dont really think it matters. Other than lowering the truck and changing the steering ratios, GM didnt do much....

I remember the Motor Trend issue which put the L vs. the 454ss and they got .88g's out of the Lightning.......Im wanting to say that it was June or July 93 issue but I dont remember. That may be where you heard about the .9g. I dunno how Ford did it but Gen 1's handle incredible given thier weight and especially given the unsprung weight of the suspension components. They nearly have 50/50 weight which helps

Thats an important fact that few know about is the weight distribution. I hear all the time that the truck has no weight in the *** end. Thats just not true. It is a very well balanced truck. If it had no weight in the rear, it wouldnt cut 1.7 60ft times!

Strange. I've seen the L1s written up as .92. Hell the L2s were close to .90. It doesn't surprise me about the L1. Not many sports cars did as well and they continue to shock people.

Well from what ive heard and read. The L has a 55/45 wight ratio that helps a whole lot. I personally think that the L would handel a whole lot better than a sy or ty. And who ever said it won in a race on a road coarse vs. a 93 cobra i would not doubt it. That is my perspective on the L.
