Some guys over there have a clue, but many are just plain ricers. Where are all these bad *** altima's? I don't see any on my streets. The last kid (note - kid) that got stupid in one wouldn't of been able to read my tailgate if he was superman when I dropped the hammer on his ***.

Hey redline, since you posted a link to this site your obviously reading this, I like your quote
"The Gen II Ls are supercharged and the R/Ts are N/A. An R/T with a supercharger would wax a Gen II L. The problems with the the Magnum 360 is a fuel system without a return line and the limiting computer. The R/T is a dead even contender with the Lighting, mod for mod of course. Even though the R/T may only make 250hp in stock trim is makes 345lbs of torque. Also, the R/T is about $8K cheaper."
You need to put this down..

Let me guess, your boyfriend drives an R/T right? because love is about the only way someone could be so delusional.

Altimas are nice family sedans with some oomph. The new 3.5L V6 is good for mid 14s. Remember that's a N/A 4-door Japanese family sedan. I just think it's stepping on the toes of the Maxima. Supposedly the Maxima is getting revamped though.

Definitaly some amazing displays of ignorance. Or of using too much crack.

Since we know they're reading this -

A) The V6 SHO was superior to the V8 in EVERY performance measure and absolutely waxed the Maxima of its era. To quote Car and Driver, "The SHO will whip a non-turbo 300ZX in acceleration, to say nothing of the more portly Maxima."

B) 13.63 in my totally stock 2000 Lightning. That's AT LEAST 10 car lengths in the quarter mile over a 5 speed 3.5 Altima. And widening the gap.

C) Ford hasn't made a 351 in 5 years. There is no "Windsor" anymore.

D) An R/T with a supercharger would "wax" a Gen 2 Lightning? Some supercharged R/Ts put out times comparable to a Gen 2 Lightning, but "wax?" Ummm, yeah, OK.

E) Which company teeters on the edge of insolvency? Ford or Nissan? Why? Which company has 5 of the top ten best selling vehicles in the United States and both the best selling car and truck in the world? Why?

None of this is to take anything away from the new Altima, which with a 5 speed and a competent driver should be able to get into the 14s. Even though it's ugly as sin. That being my completely subjective evaluation.

I thought the Camry was the best selling car? Maybe I'm just thinking of the US? What car is the best selling car in the world?

Also, where did they talk about the Windsor? I think I missed it.

Yeah, I know the guy. Both live in Sugar Land and went to high school together. He doesn't even own an Altima. He has a GS-R with some bolt-on ****. Lucky to crack mid 14s.

Camry is the best selling CAR (specific to that category only) in America. However, the best selling VEHICLE, car or truck, is the F150. And the world's best selling car, surpassing the VW Golf I believe, is the Ford Focus.

I think your giving them a little too much credit there are 3 or 4 guys over there that have a clue. My wife car is a 99 Altima, when I asked what I should do for performance mods, they came back with tint, rims, lowering springs, strut tower brace, cold air intake, & muffler.

I sometime read the "performance" threads. Most of them have no clue what it take to run fast or how a motor makes, they just ramble off what they read else where. That whole thread no one mentions whether it was a Gen I or II Lightning.

Ever since the new 240hp Altima came out the 1st and 2nd gen Altima owners in general has jumped on "Altima is fast" bandwagon, much like I saw with the Toyota Supra groups.

Right, what Clutch said - the Camry is the best-selling car in the US, but the Focus is the best-selling car in the world.

if you are such an elite tuner then why do you have to ask what performance mods to do to your wife's 99 altima? You should already know! i don't know what you expected for an answer since the only bolt-on's available for that car are i/h/e, pulley unless you want to crack the engine open and do all the **** that increases hp on any engine (which you should already know).. Why would you want performance mods on your wife's 99 altima anyways?? She is annoyed by the growl of your old stillen intake LOL, hook that **** up!!

DOH! Busted!!

I ran across a new Altima last weekend and thought the young man might want to play. We were at a light and the traffic was moving out in front of us. I rolled up next to him and had it in neutral, gave him a quick blast on the throttle, then popped it back in gear. He looked, all wide eyed, at the Lightning like it was a Top Fueler. He kinda smiled but didnt even move until I was 100ft down the road. I really wanted to see what the little boogers can do.

While the overall, air in and air out principal apply to all automobile, some vehicle have bottle necks and manufactor compromises that make for easy hp gains. Not every engine is the same. For instance, if I advanced the timing in Syclone like I did in my Altima, it would slow it down because it will detonate. Gutting the cat in my Sy will cause it to overboost. The aftermarket ignition in my Vette works well, but it insn't recommended in Syclone. A chip does a lot more in Syclone than it would ever do in my Altima.

At the time, I didn't know what was available. As for opening up the engine I don't want to do that route it is still under warranty and it is my source of reliable transportation. There isn't exactly a lot ECM options available for Altima. BTW The last time I looked there was no headers for the 98-02 Altimas.

Why??? I drive the car half the time and it is pretty slow. In case you didn't notice, I am use to driving something a little faster.
