Post Ricer "fly by" phenomenon

I still don't understand the ricer fly-by thing, do they think it's cool or something? Kinda like flashing your hazards to someone when you win? Like, it's "the thing to do" when you lose. As if they knew they were going to lose and they are showing you that they don't care. So if you lose, and you know you lost, you blow by them to show them that you're not pissed about losing, or something, I guess? Or, do they think it is normal to race until your vehicle won't go any faster and that declares the "winner"?

Personally, I would rather give someone a thumbs up or a wave to show 1) my appreciation that they are cool enough to be down with a street race and 2) that I am cool with losing, it really is NO big deal. Besides, if I want to race you, that means I respect what you are driving and think that you are "worthy" competition. And you have to be packing some decent hardware to beat an L, even a stock one like mine.

Does anyone out there have any friends or acquaintances that drive imports that could give us (American Muscle crowd) some insight into this phenomenon? Or does someone visit any of the import pages, so that they could ask?

I know I'm spending too much time on this, but it just bugs me, I think those guys are sore-losers, just not cool people.

Good theory, I would like to know exactly why they do that too! I always thought that they just caught you off guard and zoomed past you to make their friends think they beat you!! Personally, If you beet me in a street race, I roll my window down tell you good job and ask what they have done to their engine!!

I think they do that after getting beat to try to show the other guy that they were just starting to build a full head of steam and if we had just raced another few yards I would have had you.... Just a theory, can't prove it.

It's not just an import thing -- I have heard of domestics doing the same thing. Heck, I've seen it from German cars. "Ricer flyby" is just the term used because, well, ricers probably invented it.

Usually, the ricer flyby is done by a younger kid who doesn't respect other vehicles and thinks his vehicle is the ****, whether it's a Honda, Chevy, Ford, Nissan, etc. I don't understand why it happens. I just let them go unless they turn their hazards on.

Slow ricers suffer from rigamortaslowamotis ...A very contageous desease and widespread that carries symtoms of being behind(ususally in races) and keepin the throttle wide open trying for 90 mph and findin out the guy he was racin is done and is @ ARBY's eaten a cheddar melt ....,,Those wings(on the back) are also startin to work at 90 mph and then and only then do they have a shot @ ya

Wait........... werent ya @ 140 arlready and then back @ 45mph..he must of thought he reeled ya in!!! ROFLMAO..cause always remember the wings work at 90 mph then their opponents are dead meat...

I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in on the fly-by ordeal, Not only does it happen with all sorts of peeps and vehicles but let me tell you what has happend to me once, I am a retired professional roadracer, spent 14 years blasting around racetracks with my hair on fire, well needless to say I dont play dangerous games on the street, I wear my helmet, etc. and ride on the street like a normal person, but am fully capable of smoking almost anyone (not meaning to brag!) well Im going down the street one day on my 87 Gsxr-750, (very heavily modified) just puttin it one evening ya know, being mellow, going the speed limit, Im in the far left lane on the far left next to the white lines, when all of a sudden some IDIOT on a Harley with a chick on the back flies by my going about 80, RIGHT NEXT TO ME! (Harley fly-by) nearly clipping my handlebar, well if he wouldve clipped my bar or worse yet if i wouldve moved over just a inch or so it wouldve been a huge nasty wreck!! Normally I wouldve gone after him, yanked him of his pile and beaten him senseless, but it scared me so bad that I was literally shaking (and Im a seasoned roadracer!!) well once i got my nerves together I followed after him and seen him up ahead, clear road so I dropped a gear and punched it (I killed my headlight too) and smoked by him about 130!! (also stupid thing to do!) it scared that punk so bad that he almost put it into the curb!!
well I know its a long post but just wanted to say to all those dudes that play those kinds of silly games that its foolish and dangerous! and next time someone on a Hog wants to do a fly by on a Rice rider, be prepared for a serious waxing...

That really dosn't sound like a fly by, just like a lets scare the crotch rocket with my loud exhaust fly by. The ricer fly by is usually done when you race someone and when you shut down and go back to the speed limit they go flying by you to make you think they beat you (my theory anyways). When ever I see a civic with a retarted spoiler and his windows down, I will get next to him and punch it to, just to scare the **** out of him. Always works and the look on their face is worth a million words!!! That game isn't anything to be messing with like that on motorcycles though.

Where Y'at SVTruck, I had one years ago in my '72 Galaxy with a vw gti. I wasn't trying to race but this kid & his 3 friends didn't like the Big Ugly Noisy Tank in front of him. So he winds the rubber band tighter to pull even. When I seen what he was doing a gave the Tank a little more gas & pulled ahead. So he wound his rubber band tighter, 6500. More gas to the Tank. When I hit 60 in a 35 coming up on a school zone & in front by a Tank length, I shut it down. He does a Sour Kraut fly by in a school zone in front of a Cop! What a dumb ***.

LOL Abby! What a dumb@***...on a similar note, now that I have started my new job in North Palm Beach, I have to drive through a school zone near my apartment.

I've noticed everyday this week there is at least one @sshole doing normal speedlimit through there which is 45, looking around at eveyrone going 15 with a strange look on his face.

I hate stupid, unaware drivers.
