| Guest | Our little princess killed her first rabbit a few years ago, and since she got the taste of blood, hunting became her favorite sport. Talk about quick! If it's alive and close consider it a dead animal - rabbits, moles (yes moles), birds (she eats and guts them too), gophers (at night), and one deer (she didn't catch it but gave it a chase for two miles and ended up with thirty stitches from a barb wire fence). Lately her prey has been squirrels. This morning while I was enjoying my coffee, I notice she was stalking something in the yard. Then I saw a squirrel on the grass far from any trees. If it turned its head the other way for a split second, she'd launch and would quickly surprise it. After a few minutes, I sat back down and got back to my coffee and the game. About ten minutes later, I saw a white flash and watched her "fly" thru several tight figure-8's around the grass and one last dash towards a tree. She caught it as it leaped for the trunk. After a few shakes, she dropped it and looked for another. I got back to my coffee and that's when I heard a cat-like howl, which is typical of her if she is guarding something she doesn't want to share. A few minutes later, she appeared in the house and came up to me with the "unusual" smile, as if she did something I should be proud of. That's when I noticed reddish brown stains all around her muzzle - squirrel blood (that stuff smells!). So I cleaned her up and checked out the yard - two dead squirrels, one in a couple pieces. Apparently, one of the other dogs tried to take it from her which explains the howl. After it was torn in two, she took the other piece back. If you could see her now curled up against the wood burning stove, you would never imagine that she was capable of this carnage. Spike |

| Guest | Yes, very nice looking dogs. I'm trying to break my Sheltie of his paper shredding habit, if he wants to shred critters out in the yard instead, I'd be happy. Oh, I'm a new member BTW, just sent in my info and 30 bucks. 2001 L, bought April 26th, 13,000 so far, stock. |

| Guest | Thanks, It's funny how my dogs are similar to Lightnings. Quick, agile, and powerful. Yet they appear totally incapable of the extra ordinary to the casual observer. Welcome Clutchfan! Good luck with the Sheltie. Spike Blazer at 8 weeks old: Although this is Blazer's heritage, he's a lover: [This message has been edited by Spike Engineering (edited 11-26-2001).] |

| Guest | Spike: I'm not as quick as your whippet but I too hunt sqirrels--in my yard(1.33 acres)--too many oaks and pines to count. I use a GAMO pellet gun(1,000 fps) to "rideth'(Speedin'-me thinks you meant 'riddeth') my yard of the chewin' bastids. They 'eat' wood trim on the house, aluminum clips on the fence, and the rubber water hoses. I have liberated a few of the little devils. Wish I still had my Rhodesian Ridgeback to stand beside me as you do. Dan |
