A/W "Ice Box"... Trans Cooler...

The guy building my a/w fluid container (5 gal) asked me if i wanted to put a tranny cooler in my box also...

I was like wtf... its a street vehicle... but he assures me that doesnt matter... it will keep the trans temp way down...

So i called a friend...

He assured me the same thing...

I just dont know how well it would work out..

the "ice box" really wont get much ice to be honest.. it will be water wetter is about all...

He isnt going to charge me anything extra i just need to send him my tranny cooler..

should i do it...

i mean worse case i am out a tranny cooler and i block off the lines later on if i dont like it...

I wanna hear the good and bad about the trans cooler in the igloo or what ever you wanna call it...

the trans has to operate at a certain temp, just like the truck. if you were using a trans brake, high stall, etc. then I would say yes. street truck, running through the rad is more than enough.

Isn't the trans line to radiator for bringing trans up to operating temps in colder climates? At least that's how I understood it. I have read that quite a few have deleted it to radiator.

I would say unless you tow a pretty heavy trailer, or have a pretty high stall converter, the stock one in the radiator is more than you need.

WHAT? blow up you Trans??? WTF How is running your trans at a lowwer temp going to blow up your trans???

The lower the temp in the trans the longer it will last.
You want to blow up you trans Try foot brakeing it on the boost for 30sec and wach the trans temp go to 210f and say by by to your trans.

210 is the # your trans hits 210 and its trash I don't care if you can drive it after or not. its life will be short after that. And it not hard to do with a turbo.

Go ahead and ask me how i know.

i will be foot braking it till the trans brake comes out for the 4r100...

i know my trans temp will rise pretty quick then...

i will send him a trans cooler... like i said i could always have it plugged later...

plus where my water box will be located the tran lines wont be long at all..

Trannies need a certain operating temp for sure, but the one thing us turbo guys have to do is use a higher stall converter. Higher stall = higher heat. I did the Ford Superduty cooler in my setup to offset this increase.
