7 Days of hell to get my baby close to done. Here we go! (pics)

Well I took a week off work starting tomorrow and am looking to make some major headway. Big thanks to FlaHP and Mistergadget for helping today. Here's what we did.

First order of business was to get my Lightning dressed up for the party. In honor of blowing her up, I slapped my official member sticker to Rod McChuckin's club. Like every other Lightning owner that had ever chucked a rod out the side, my baby will wear it with pride.

Then we stared at the throttle linkage for a while. The Wilson units don't come with any kind of hardware. After pondering for a bit we did a bracket out of aluminum stock, and will be searching for a threaded eyelet for the cable tomorrow.

My hotside from Swaintech looked good in white, but I knew it would just smudge and get dirty over time, so my friend hit it with a few cans of 2000° VHT black heat paint. I love the look.

Drivers side is in, O2 hooked up.

My 52mm Raceport has been sitting for a year and somehow had some dirt in the monitoring port. Just to be sure I unscrewed it and blew any debris out.

While I tightened up the header bolts, my buddy proceeded to clock my turbo. In the original config, the drain side was actually on the top (My fab guy mounted it that way, so it needed to change)

I have a black turbo blanket so I decided not to send my exhaust housing to Swaintech. Well it was rusty (as a lot are) and I had a can of VHT left. Meh, why not. Let's get sanding.

Ahhhh much better! Won't see it once the blanket it on, but I prefer it clean and black like this.

All in all a great firstday. 7 more to go. I want this thing RUNNING DAMNIT!

typhoon43: are those the 4.6 shorty headers everyone uses? Trying to get some ideas. Thanks!

It's finally coming together! How well do you think that high temp paint will hold up? I know you have that coating under it so maybe it'll hold up a little better than I have seen high temp paint hold up in the past.

BTW: you should really invest in t-bolt clamps... they are MUCH stronger than those hose clamps you are using..

The VHT black will hopefully do ok. As for the clamps, those are for mockup. I have T-Bolts all the way around. I have to pull the outlet to clean out my IC.

And yes, those are flipped Ford Racing 4.6 shorties. They work great.

ABS is also deleted. Made a TON of room over there.

12-16-2008. DAY 2

Had a busy day today, which started with my mission of getting the coolant crossover situation remedied, and tapping the oilpan for the return line. We spent from 12PM to about 5 just buying parts for tomorrow's onslaught; IAT2 sensor, which I tapped a 3/8" hole in the back of my Wilson Manifold, a 10AN bulkhead fitting for the Oil Return line, some Ultra Copper gasket maker, an inline 175 ° thermostat housing from Evans Cooling, a Lokar throttle linkage that we bastardized to set my throttle cable up, and a bunch of other ticky-tack crap that somehow ended up with me blowing 300.00 today. Uggh. All in the pursuit of power dammit.

Anyways, on to the pics!

I had some tabs welded to the crossover pipe so I could bolt it into the heads. Here it is mocked up. It goes for powdercoating tomorrow.

Next up was the always fun task of pulling my oil pan. This involved unbolting the motor mounts and lifting the engine with my hoist. It gave me just enough clearance to get the pan out. Once it was out, time to grab the step bit and get busy.

After some deburring with the needle file, I was able to get the 10AN bulkhead fitting to screw in. It is o-rigned on the outside, and I used a bead of Ultra Copper on the inside and outside as well.

I have 10 feet of 10AN black braided hose, so the Function-7 one-piece drain fitting made perfect sense. It's going to be close trying to get a 10AN fitting on there with how tight it is, but I have faith. We'll see tomorrow.

The JGS44m Wastegate was test fitted again to make sure the coating process didn't throw anything off. I guess I can't ***** at how much I paid my fab guy because it lines up like a dream.

I hear the Murdered Out look is the hotness right now, so I'm still trying to rock as much all-black as I can (not really, I just like it all black)

Here's the business section as it sits right now.

And here's a wider shot. Still a ton to do, but we've gotten over the major hurdles that I thought would really slow me down. The only thing slowing me now is my wallet, but I have to press on.

Tomorrow I am going to pull the Sullivan lower intake to install a Lightning water tube from the back of the water pump. My Navigator one exits up front, which would mean unsightly tubing. The Lightning one exits the rear, and will work well with the rear head outlets that I tapped from extra cooling. We should also have the throttle linkage done by then. Hopefully the powdercoater doesn't hold me up too much. I'll be begging them for a rush job tomorrow.

A HUGE thanks to FlaHP and MisterGadget for the help. I am going to owe you guys huge when this is all done.
See you guys tomorrow night for another update!

do you have any pics of the tabs that bolt to the crossover pipe? im guessing these tabs you added are to help relieve the weight of the turbo?

i need to figure out someway to make a good bracket for my setup which ive yet to install...

he was talking about his coolant crossover pipe, not the turbo piping.

btw, i also need to come up with a bracket, my turbo weighs around 50 lbs.

That coating looks great, much better than white. How hard was it to get the oil pan off? Was it worth it, or was it a pain?
