I've gone for mild steel and having them ceramic coated as I feel there less likely to crack in everyday conditions, If it was mainly a race truck then it would be S/S for me!!

mild steel can still rust even through the ceramic coatings. especially if you live in a very humid climate. I used stainless steel, and if welded properly it will be just as strong as mild. As long as the headers arent what is supporting the weight of the turbo you shouldn't have any problems with using SS..

you will have a lot of problems with warping with 3/8"

17/8"ths would be over kill, mine are 13/4" but still concider those quite large for 1000hp range.

there isnt much of a differeance in the 1 7/8" vs 1 3/4" its 1/8" and i found the 1 7/8" cheaper so thats why i figured i would do that...

do you see it harming anything if i do go 1 7/8"

Yes the is only 1/8th differents in diameter but we are talking tube volume and 1/8th makes for quite an increase, The differents will be slower spool up, When the exhaust gasses are hot they are compact and flow fast, but once they get into a big area they will cool quicker and slow down so the aim is to keep them fast flowing upto the exhaust housing.

also, when you weld the flanges on, you should bolt them to a head (if you can get a spare/junk head) to help with heat dissipation to avoid warping the flange

I think you will have quite an issue with clearance with 1 7/8" tubing.. you don't want anything that big with a big turbo on these trucks, your spool time will be way to slow. I went with 1 5/8" on my TT headers. But its a totally different ball game for me..

When we build our turbo race headers we use 1/2" flanges and stainless, I was going to go this route for my lightning, but materials ALONE was going to run me $1500 @ COST! So I just ended up flipping a set of motorsports...
