vacuum leak - boost controller?

So normally my vacuum gauge reads 18-20 at idle.

Today as well as last friday I started it up and it read 15-16 at idle.

Last friday when this happened I got to my destination (work all night) and turned off the truck and went back out later and started it up and it was normal. 18-20.

This weekend I drive to work and at idle its at 15-16 Ive started it and driven it a few more times since then and it still wont go down below 16 on the vacuum side.

Truck drove fine, my wideband was great it didnt say i was lean or anything. Everything seems okay but the vacuum gauge.

i can hear a loud hissing sound by the boost controller.

when i push down on the knob that adjusts the boost the hissing noise goes away but once i let off the knob hissing comes back.

but ive yet to see if the vacuum goes back down to normal.

is it okay to bypass the boost controller? and just connect the 2 vacuum lines on each side of the boost controller together?

The boost controller is pointless because I only run 8psi and i have an 8psi spring in the wastegate.

This is the turbonetics boost controller i have.

Why would the boost controller be leaking vacuum?...

Boost controller is hooked up to positive pressure only right after turbo ( or compressor housing outlet...), no motor vacuum should be hooked up to it ?

I was thinking hmm electric boost controller .. hooked up to manifold vacuum. But then you linked a mechanical type?

confused.

Boost controller is adjustable to whatever PSI. When it hits that PSI it lets the pressure to the wastegate diaphram which opens it... (ball & spring type..)

Maybe your controller is RIGHT next to the actual vacuum leak?

ORR I don't know / didn't know about a different type of boost controller..... ..

*grin* lol

Yeah if you just hook up the two hoses, you'll lose boost I'm pretty sure. Unless the rules for that boost controller are different...

oh okay, i dont know how a boost controller works :-(

well, if thats the case then its not the boost controller then.

my boost controller is actaully right on the firewall near the battery. because i did not want the boost controller in the cab.

its for sure making a hissing sound though thats for sure.

my boost controller has a line that comes from the wastegate.

disco the controller

some controllers are hooked up to a vacuum line that will see both sides.

i didnt actually install this boost controller its been fine until recently.

would it be okay to bypass it by running a strait thru fitting that would allow those the lines from each side of the boost controller to connect together?

or do i need to pull the line from the top of the wastegate that goes to the boost controller and then disconnect the other line that goes from boost connector to vacuum source... (atleast i think thats how its hooked up i didnt install this part of my kit)

you can pull the controller, and put a fitting in to splice the line.

In the future you want to remove all the lines and have the reference for boost wether it goes to your controller or wastegate come from the outlet of the turbo

okay, just got off of work, pulled off the front bumper cover to access the wastegate.

puled the line off the top of the waste gate, removed the line from the boost controller to vacuum source and capped the vacuum source.

started her up and vacuum leak/boost leak is gone! at idle the vacuum is back to the normal!!!!

I put the boost controller back on, Im ordering a new boost controller as we speak.

should be a simple swap. only problem now is i dont know how to adjust a boost controller... lol...

thanks!
