Hmm.. MAX boost on F150block

So.. ***Thinking Out Loud...***

Yeah I've been thinking a lot about how much boost I can run on my stock F150 block. I have a 97' so I have the older non-PI heads (bah). I guess the older 97 98s had forged steel cranks. A Plus!

Anyways.. some folks on This site is currently under construction run their PI 5.4's to around 12 and stay there. They claim it's pretty safe... But is it really.. with 9:1 compression? Heck a dude had his spike at 15-16psi!!

I'm sure it is somewhat safe, with a good tune. They claim around 375hp (with ATI procharger) @ 12ish psi

Upon the initial finishing of my truck, I've ran it to 10-11 psi going up a pretty steep grade for a few seconds. Didn't notice any detonation, and i tuned it for 5 psi... although these sniper tunes are very conservative and safe. Intake temps were horrible too, getting up to 170 or so. (no intercooler at thetime)

**** So what do you guys think.. 9:1 compression... 12 psi good for street duty? I run REGULAR 87 pump-junk pretty good at 8PSI. I've had some pingage when my methanol ran out.. (+2 advance over 8psi tune) ****

Maybe I can get premium.. tune for 12 psi, and make sure my water/meth is full... =P I'll forget bumping the timing if I go that high too.

I'm runnin the 103 IX autolights right now..(got 25k on em so far). I'm Runnin 7 psi due to spark starting to blow out at previous 8psi. I Took on an 05' Mustang GT from a 30mph roll, up to around 80 or 90 where I decided to let off. Pretty good for only 7PSI...
-- He got me from a dig though. I didn't launch like I should have. Meh.--

That is my site. When running 12 psi it is best to run 91 or better, even with meth. now it all depends on your full setup. Give a complete list and I can better guide you in what it will take. I know I had my 97 at 18psi with the procharger. The pistons are not as weak in that motor.

Ahh.. I'm CR250man =)

The motor is all stock besides the turbo. I thought the pistons & rods stayed the same but they moved to a nodular iron crank in 99 along with the PI heads?

Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator.. bumped to 50 psi w/ vacuum 60 without
Puny 30lb injecctors (probably moving to 42lb before I'd bump boost)
255LPH pump
PMAS 3'' MAF
BigFatty 50mm wastegate & BOV
Turbonetics 62-1 Ceramic B/B .58A/R... Housing will probably be .68 or .81 too
AEM Wideband, Turbosmart Eboost2 controller.. controlling the methanol also

Chopped in half duramax intercooler, works pretty good for not getting any real airflow =)

Stock Manifolds...StockCats...

Threw in a valvebody (shifting was getting a little mushy under boost)

But yeah the motor is stock besides turbo stuff & meth

How did you get the eboost2 to control the meth? I have a snow meth kit with a maf controller, but i also have the eboost2 which i would like to use instead.

Well the EBoost uses manifold pressure to control a relay, nitrous solenoid or whatever you want to hook up to it.
- If you press the triangle button and setup (left button and top right) you can scroll along and find AU (auxillary output)... press triangle button to select.. and you get Ron/Rof (RPM on/off) and Bon/Bof (boost on/off)... I just set Bon at 4 psi and when Eboost senses 4psi of boost, it'll trip the relay which you rig up to whatever you like. I tried to set Bof to 4 psi but it didnt work. Just set the Bon and it'll turn on at 4 psi and off below 4 psi. =)
*TIP* I rigged a green LED to the meth inj motor's wires so that it turns on when it starts spraying...& put it next to my old boost guage at the time. Works GREAT!

I think the Eboost is the best controller since pie =] Was using TurboXS manual ball spring & bleed controller... I like being able to fiddle with it on the fly =)

NonPI.. and the regular F150 blocks had less of a dish piston (18cc?) which bumped compression up to 9.0:1.

Lightnings have 23cc if im correct... lowering compression to 8.5:1

So maybe since my heads are NON PI .. I could run more boost
The exhaust port stalls out really quick though. LAME!

I have a set of old PI heads in my garage... someone stole my dirtbike snowmachine... cams / cam caps/ timing set as well (retards)...
---So they are junk I guess. Unless you can fit other cam caps on the heads... Probably the reason why they are hard to find
I doubt it though. My friend rebuilt a 4.6 and used cam caps from a different motor, and the cam wouldn't spin.
