Spring Change on Wastegate

Stupid question but I have never changed a spring on a wastegate. How would one go about doing this? Turbosmart 38mm streetgate.

take the top off, bunch of allen screws. when removing take all of them out, but leave two in opposite of each other. then slowly back each one out a little at a time to work the top off (its under pressure from the spring).

Thanks, any gaskets or seals that need to be replaced when doing the swap?

Put it in a vice to take all the screws out then slowly back the vice out.. or use a pair of quick-grip clamps then take the screws out.. same concept.. also my JGS gate had high temp o-rings that i definitly ruined a time or two..

So all of you suggest taking the wastegate out of the truck first and then taking out the spring. Or can I do it in the truck?

I did my swap with them in the truck, kind of a pain but I managed. I used a C-clamp to hold it while I got the 2 screws started. Good luck

I did mine on the truck and it was a pest until I got 2 longer bolts to start the cap on the reassambly process.
Just use bolts that are twice as long as the original ones to draw the top cap of the gate close enough to get the stock bolts to catch. Then, remove the long bolts and install the rest and tighten to spec. (1/2 grunt)

Half a grunt HAHA! It seems like it will be a pain to take the gate out but it also seems like a less pain to take it out.

I would take it off the truck the first time you do it. Then once you have done it one time you will be able to do it while its on the truck..
