EGT temps?

I was wondering if any of the other turbo guys monitor there EGT temps? I think mine seem high in comparison to a diesel motor. Mine range from 1100 to 1400 degrees. Does this seem right or is this high? Should I be worried about these temps? What can be done to lower them?

Rich

depends on where you are in the throttle. Generally I am running 1000 degrees and jump to 1600 on a full pass. You never want to go past 1600. Mine are on the high side. Most like to see 800 cruise and 1200 race pass. To cool them down you can run a larger housing, or with fuel and timing.

Mines mounted on the passanger side header flange. Closest to the first cylinder.

I put mine directly after the turbo. Not as accurate as before, but no worries about the tip breaking off and killing the turbo. I have had it happen.

What about placement of the O2 sensors? Mine are after the turbo, but I'm considering moving them to the header collectors. Perhaps I should leave them as they are based on Skid's experience. I know that my EGT will be after the turbo.
Any thoughts?

If I were guessing, the O2's may not like being that hot. It isn't like you should have any combustion after it leaves the cylinder, and enters the turbo, I think that you should put the O2's after the turbo. As for the EGT's. They will change because of the turbo. If it were me, I would have a bung both before and after the turbo, and when tuning I would put a nice new one in before, and tune from that, because it is going to be the turbo and the motor that get damaged from too high of EGT's. After tuning, place the Thermacular couple behind the turbo, and run it a few times on the dyno, and take notes. The temps will be down, but should corrilate directly with rises and dips in the previous dyno runs, giving you an idea of your real temps. This way you can always have an EGT sensor, and moniter it, all the while knowing what the real temps are and not sacraficing your turbo...

I have my o2's in front of the turbo in each collector. They work fine there, but I do burn them up pretty fast. Meaning I replace them every 6 months, but then again I do a lot of testing as well. For a DD and weekend racer I would put them after the turbo

are you tlaking about the mainstream o2's?

i have my stock o2's in my headers and then i have a wideand o2 after the turbo and thats it.

i also have TONS of stuff turned off. how would i know if my mainstream o2's need replacement? just like any other car that needs new o2s? i guess if my truck decides to be too lean then i may need some new o2's...

i guess i just dont know my truck anymore since i went turbo, after seeing the inspection report of everything thats turned off i was shocked. i have all my emissions stuff but its all turned off in the tune!!!
