Post The Drop Shop Diaries

For the next week or so I will be doing a step by step pictorial of a 4"/6" drop on my 2000 Lightning. I will post pictures when progress is made. Here's picture # 1. Dec. 27th, both lower control arms on drivers side and passanger side were removed.

Dec. 31st. The front end is done. Excellent ride quality with the new arms and new shocks. Better than stock I would say !!!

Hey Rob' these are the DJM's right? If so did you have any problems with the ball joints or anything else?

George,

Those arms are Western Chassis. I know I confused everybody here flip flopping but Western Chassis sent me another set that had the correct sway bar mounting points so I put those on yesterday. Combined with the Hotchkis springs I already had the arms lowered my truck exactly 1". I'm also using the Doetch Tech shocks with this set up and I gotta tell you... the ride is AWESOME !!!

P.S. here's some of the other important parts/mods I did while doing the front control arm swap. 1st, the very necessary Cam Bolts from Ford. No alignment without these little bastards.
2nd, the only problem with the Western Chassis arms is that the rear mounting points are too narrow and need to be shimmed.
Easily fixed with large washers.

Stay tuned for the rear install.

Jan.5th. Installed these progressive rate Eibach springs today. They are the gray spring in the picture, the black spring is the Hotchkis spring. Because the Eibach springs are progressive they compress more than the Hotchkis spring and therefore lowered my truck an additional 3/4". The ride is also a bit better with the Eibachs compared to the Hotchkis springs.

Cool I am glad you like them better than the Hotchkis springs. I can't wait till I get my truck back. I have a set of Roush spring that will replace my Hotchkis spring.

I can't wait to get them off of my truck. I'll let you know how how I like the new springs.

Don,
Along with the springs a HUGE difference in ride quality was the switch from the '01 Bilstein shocks to Doetsch Tech shocks. The Bilsteins always felt bottomed out. More good news is Doetsch Tech is coming out with an adjustable shock for lowered trucks. This would be great for strip and street duty
