| Supporting Vendor Paid Member | December 2007 Gen 1 TOTM – Congratulations Alex "redlightningssf" Bernal! (NLOC #647) December 2007 Gen 1 Truck Of The Month – Congratulations Alex (redlightningssf ) Bernal! (NLOC #647) The stance of Alex's red 93 with the Gen 2 wheels grabs your attention and makes you want to look closer. When you pop the hood, take a deep breath! The engine bay is just sick looking with the huge 871 blower sitting atop his powerplant. Together, Alex has built an awesome truck that looks great and performs! ![]() 1. What sparked your interest in the Ford Lightning? Back in 1995 my friend John had a Black Lightning that just looked better than any truck I'd ever seen. I asked him to take me for a ride. That's all it took for me to want one. I sold my 93 Fatboy and bought my red 93. ![]() 2. Do you have any interesting stories about previously owned vehicles, before becoming a Lightning owner? My first car back in 1974 was a 69 Mach l. I have had other Mustangs as well. One was an 85 GT I drove for 12 years and had a B&M roots blower. I sold it when I bought my Lightning. I come from a Ford family. Mom drove a 66 Mustang for 30 years. My brother and his son have restored the 66 to a V8 with all the goodies. My brother drives a 66 Ford Fairlane rag top. ![]() 3. What modifications have you made to your truck since you have owned it...both show and go? The first thing I did back then was to lower it with springs. Then came the Kenne Bell blower followed by heads and cam. I had to replace the trans to the upgraded 95. I have had other blowers on the truck but none look as impressive as the 871.The paint had to be redone and the leather seats made it easier to clean. ![]() 4. Do you have any interesting stories about your Lightning? It always seems to attract attention everywhere I go. I love to see the expression on peoples faces when I pop the hood and they see that 871 hiding underneath. ![]() 5. Tell us about yourself, your hobbies, business or work, sports, family, etc. I work as a driving instuctor, so I'm on the road 7 hours a day. Having a work car lets me keep the Lightning garaged. In the past 6 years I have only put 17,000 miles on my Lightning. I played volleyball for like 20 years but after my hip replacement I had to stop playing impact sports. ![]() 6. How long have you been a user of the NLOC.net, when did you become an NLOC member, and why did you choose to become a member of NLOC? I joined back in 2001, I have never been in a car (truck) club before so it seemed like the thing to do at the time. I have made some good friends being a member of NLOC. All the guys here in BALA, and I can't forget the mention the SOCAL guys, are a great bunch of guys. Every time we drive down for the Knotts show we are in for a good time. ![]() 7. What suggestions do you have to make the NLOC.net website easier to use and navigate? I too miss spell check. All in all I like the website. ![]() 8. Why did you pick your board user name (screen name)? I have a red lightning and I lived in South San Francisco. That's how I became Redlightningssf. ![]() 9. What are your plans for future changes to your truck? I need some bigger fuel pumps to be able to run more boost. I have been wanting to do the big drop for a while now. Right now I'm very happy with the way shes running at 370 HP on 5 # of boost. I think I'll take the advice of my friend and fellow Lightning owner Roy (SuperCabL) and just enjoy driving it. ![]() 10. Whom would you like to thank for help\donations\support for putting the truck together? I can't forget the thank my brother for helping me cut and fabricate the adaptors for my blower. My other family (BALA) are a great bunch of guys too... Roy, Paul, George, Phil, Jason, the other Alex, gone but not forgotten Jeff Sparkman, Joe, Chester, Don, Robert, and the other new members. ![]() Last edited by madramper; 12-02-2007 at 08:10 AM.. |
