| Supporting Vendor Paid Member | September 2007 Gen 1 TOTM - Congratulations to Jeff "e9tac" Loa! (NLOC #1441) ...September 2007 Gen 1 Truck Of The Month – Congratulations Jeff (e9tac) Loa! (NLOC #1441) Here we have another great example of the first generation Lightning. Jeff's truck is simply amazing! This may be one of the cleanest trucks I have ever seen! The attention to detail on this truck is like none other and I can only hope my truck would look half as good! Congrats to Jeff for being September's Truck of the Month! ![]() 1. What sparked your interest in the Ford Lightning? When the “new or pre” body style F150 came out in 92 I liked it a lot, but when the Lightning arrived in 93 I knew I just had to have one. Although I knew nothing about fast cars or high performance anything, the Lightning was just too sleek not to want one…my only problem was being able to afford one! 2. Do you have any interesting stories about previously owned vehicles, before becoming a Lightning owner? I was a poser…. When the 95 Lightning came out I still couldn’t afford one so I settled for a 95 Eddie Bauer instead. I practiced or should I say honed my “ragman” skills on that truck. Eventually I slapped a set of gen 2 rims on the EB and thought to myself “if I couldn’t own a Lightning outright I could at least own the rims.” My wife teased me relentlessly about being a “wanna be” or “poser.” The teasing was short lived because two weeks after installing the rims on the EB it was totaled. This is the only pic of the EB I have and it was taken in the tow yard after the wreck…but it still had a shine. And although the EB had an unfortunate ending it opened the door for me to become a Lightning owner after all and yes the gen 2 rims were salvaged. 3. What modifications have you made to your truck since you have owned it...both show and go? Wax and lot’s of it, lol. Pretty much the typical things to make it go faster; S-trim, chip, cam, heads, and a few exterior and interior things like cowl hood, rims, headlights, stereo, alarm, traction bars and did I mention wax. 4. Do you have any interesting stories about your Lightning? It appears my misfortunes have resulted in a couple of mods. I bought the truck in Massachusetts and drove it all the way back to Utah. It was during that trip I determined I needed my first mod…a new stereo, because I blew the stock speakers somewhere in Nebraska. During my first outing at the track and on the fifth pass I threw the blower belt, shredded the serpentine belt, damaged the hood, and crushed the tranny cooler lines. While in the pits trying to patch the damage enough to limp home I realized I was in need of a lowering kit. ![]() 5. Tell us about yourself, your hobbies, business or work, sports, family, etc. I’m an operations manager for a chemical distribution company. I used to officiate baseball, NCAA DIV I & II and High School Varsity, but gave it up when I bought the truck and now my truck and NLOC are my hobbies. 6. How long have you been a user of the NLOC.net, when did you become an NLOC member, and why did you choose to become a member of NLOC? I was encouraged to join the site by Ken Woodward, but the real reason I joined was because I wanted the cool shirt and sticker, lol. In 2004 I made my membership official and proudly display the sticker on the truck—I think it may be time for a new shirt though. 7. What suggestions do you have to make the NLOC.net website easier to use and navigate? It seems to get better all the time and the best $30 I spend a year and the friendships made/built are PRICELESS! 8. Why did you pick your board user name (screen name)? There is a killer brew pub in Tacoma called Engine House Number 9 that is in a historic fire house. They serve 47 different kinds of beer and if you can drink all 47 within a specific timeframe your name is added to a plaque on the wall…needless to say my name is on the wall. The locals call the place e9 and since it’s in Tacoma I thought it would be a cool screen name; e9tac. Not to mention, I really wanted to become a firefighter at one time in my life… 9. What are your plans for future changes to your truck? Full paint, hard tonneau cover, new shocks all the way around, mondo BOV, rear disc brake conversion, line lock, and just plain enjoy it. 10. This is where you link favorite websites, your website, family pictures and add any other comments. I want to thank my family for putting up with my addiction—both truck and NLOC—and for the support over the years. A special thank you to Steve Stock (sstock) for taking me under your wing and teaching me how to turn wrenches…you’re a great friend and mentor. I’d like to also thank Scott and Jean Cedergreen (scriced & Grade 8) for opening up your home and shop to help me along…both of you are a class act and I’m grateful for our friendship. “Son Tom” otherwise known as “the mechanic” (TomnSarah) deserves a thank you too…we put in some long hours and late nights working on the truck; your efforts and friendship are valued—thanks! Other notable credits: Rick (cacric) - lending a hand or two. Dale (Bad as L) - knowledge and tools. Ken Woodward (Ken Woodward) – teaching me the little things matter. | Super Moderator Paid Member | Congratulations Jeff! Jeff's truck is one of the cleanest Lightnings in existence. Pictures really do not do it justice. It is a must see. It is powdered and ceramic coated to the max and detailed to show quality. You guys will see it this year at Lfest. That truck does not come outside if there is a cloud in the sky, but he will be putting on the windshield wipers and "driving" it to KC. It is not just a show truck either, it runs 12.4's on a very tame street tune through cats and is emmision compliant. The perfect balance of all show and go. Thanks to the NLOC, Jeff and his lovely family have become friends to our Lightning family. We have a great bunch of folks here at the WashLo. ![]() Last edited by Super Glide; 09-01-2007 at 09:40 AM.. |
