| Supporting Vendor Paid Member | August 2007 Gen 1 TOTM – Congrats Jean "Grade 8" Cedergreen! (NLOC #2167) ...August 2007 Gen 1 Truck Of The Month – Congratulations Jean (Grade 8) Cedergreen! (NLOC #2167) Jean's truck is just plain cool! It is super clean with great attention to detail. Not only is it abeautiful truck, but its fast too! It has screamed down the 1/4 mile to the tune of 13.505 @ 101.44 MPH. So join me in congratulating Grade 8 for building another awesome Gen 1! ![]() 1. What sparked your interest in the Ford Lightning? My husband bought a Gen 2 in 2003 and started fiddling with it. I just didn’t understand why he couldn’t just leave it alone ! He started with the suspension, he wanted a Cadillac ride out of a truck. “It’s a truck !”, I’d say. We went to Lightning Fest at Topeka in 2004 in his Gen 2 just to spectate. Then, at the track, I saw the “Big Boys” go in their 9 –10 second Gen 1’s. I say, “That’s cool, I like that, what are those ?” The earth moved somewhere in the world for my husband that day. As he explains, it’s a Gen 1 and how we have one that’s similar at home but it’s a 1989 F-150 and you know how much you like that truck. “Yes I do”, I said, “but it doesn’t go fast, I want one that goes fast !” And so it began… ![]() 2. Do you have any interesting stories about previously owned vehicles, before becoming a Lightning owner? I was a newly licensed driver at the time shopping with my Mom for my first car. I knew nothing about cars except the guys I dated had cool fast cars. I didn’t know how much I could spend, all I knew was we were poor and a car was a luxury. First stop was to look at a kid’s car in the next town over. Way cool and inexpensive. Next we went to the big city 26 miles away. No to the Plymouth with a push button tranny, no to a Chevy Nomad. After shopping all day for a car and not finding anything I liked we called it a day. While driving home Mom and I discuss the first car we looked at. My heart is just set on it. Oh please Mom ! We stop and buy it then and there. I’m now the proud owner of the coolest car ! A 1958 Chevy Impala hardtop, 348 ci, single 4 BBL (no trips), converted to a 3 speed on the floor, dual exhaust with glass packs, red lines, chrome reverse wheels, with a posi rearend. And yes it would lay down 2 NICE BLACK lines on the pavement for a long ways ! ![]() 3. What modifications have you made to your truck since you have owned it...both show and go? Do you have any interesting stories about your Lightning? …Now once we get it home our son Tom, my personal mechanic, checked it for a suspected head gasket leak. Yes, it leaked so ordered parts to repair it. Scott and Tom invite me to see the progress on the inside of the engine. As each stood on a side of the engine bay and me on my step peering over the nose into the vastness of the engine bay, I say, “You know if there’s anything you want to do in the future to this now would be a good time. I don’t want to see this again in six months ‘cause you want more power or a stronger engine.” You could have heard a pin drop. Tom looked at Scott, Scott looked at Tom and they both smiled ! As I left the shop I think I heard Tom say, “Dad, you got the credit cards, I got the phone !” ![]() 5. Tell us about yourself, your hobbies, business or work, sports, family, etc. I’m very married to a wonderful man, Scott, 27 years now. He knows what’s good for me whether I believe him or not. I’m the devils advocate when he spends money for horsepower; they have to equal each other. I have two sons, Scott raised Tom, the ex raised the other. There’s two grand daughters, the oldest just graduated high school, the youngest has two years to go. I worked in a custom meat shop doing everything but cut kill and carry the meat that came in the back door off the kill truck. Then I moved into the retail grocery meat department as a meat wrapper and later into the lunchmeat/cheese section of the meat dept. After 20 years of that I retired. I enjoy designing and building with wood. I was going to build the cabinets for the shop but we found they were cheaper to buy. The crown molding in our house is a love/hate affair ! Seems I need to help my two guys troubleshoot the trucks from time to time. I always start off by saying, “This may be just a dumb girl question, but….”. At least it makes them think a little harder ! ![]() 6. How long have you been a user of the NLOC.net, when did you become an NLOC member, and why did you choose to become a member of NLOC? I lurked for about a year and a half then joined NLOC in July of 2006. I joined to help support the organization of NLOC. It runs the cleanest, mostly respectful board I have found, with topnotch moderators to help keep it that way. The information on our trucks on the NLOC is second to NONE ! 7. What suggestions do you have to make the NLOC.net website easier to use and navigate? It works fine for me. When the format changes it takes awhile to adjust but if the changes help keep the spam, virus’ and hackers out, it’s a good thing. I know change isn’t always easy for some of us. But we must keep ahead so the next generation thinks we’re still cool! ![]() 8. Why did you pick your board user name (screen name)? Because I didn’t like the names Scott was coming up with for the personalized plate on my truck. It’s the same as my screen name. ![]() 9. What are your plans for future changes to your truck? It’s fine right now but I hear a line lock is in it’s future. ![]() 10. This is where you link favorite websites, your website, family pictures and add any other comments. My sweetie Scott, son Tom for being my personal mechanic and encouraging Dad to tear into it. Tom’s wife Sarah for letting him come up to Mom and Dad’s house to play. The motley crew from WashLO, especially Dale (Bad as L), Steve (sstock), Jeff (e9tac), Jon (SLVRLTNG), Rick (Cacric), Bill (WashTruBlu), Francis (Bafi20), Michael (LITNROD), and Carson (cschlamp) for their camaraderie and shenanigans ! The SVs that have answered questions and sold us lots of stuff. Dwight and Nan for their tireless hours behind the scenes. Been there, done that and it’s not easy ! Last, but not least, the family of NLOC members across America that have developed into lifetime friendships. ![]() |
