January 2007 Gen 1 TOTM – Congratulations Dennis "huffentuff95" Macho! (NLOC #277)

...January 2007 Gen 1 Truck Of The Month – Congratulations Dennis (huffentuff95) Macho! (NLOC #277)

Dennis' truck pushes the boundaries on what can be done with a stock motor. This truck continues to be a record breaker. It was the fastest truck on 19 lb/hr injectors running 11.86 in the 1/4 mile. Then, it became the fastest totally stock longblock running 11.20. He is currently knocking on the 10 second door with his stock shortblock street monster! When this truck is not ripping down the 1320, you can see Dennis driving it to the dump to get rid of his trash. Hey, its still a truck! This truck is clean, mean, and a great truck to start off the new year!

1. What sparked your interest in the Ford Lightning?

I wasn't really looking for a Lightning at the time. Back in 1998, I owned a clean 91 Madza B-2000 pickup. It was a little 4 banger with a 5 speed. I was searching for a 90-93 Chevy 454SS. Man am I glad I didn't buy one of those. I was told of a clean 95 Lightning for sale a few towns over. I went to look at it. It was all stock with just a K&N panel filter installed. It came complete with a pink tube bumper. The truck had 47K miles and the guy was asking $14,000. I took it out for a test ride and the rest is history.

2. Do you have any interesting stories about previously owned vehicles, before becoming a Lightning owner?

I had been into drag racing since age 17. I started out racing Kawasaki 2 stroke motorcycles. In 1978, I switched over to Honda and raced various models until 1985. I was always the underdog running lesser CC's and winning many races. Then, in 1985, I bought a 1970 396SS Chevelle for $2100 and started street racing it in Philadelphia on Saturday nights. Yes, it was a real 396SS. I remember being on 11th Ave. in South Philadelphia with the Chevelle and racing this guy in a Mustang. It was a short track and the shut down area was a red light. It was really a 1/8 mile stretch. Well, the Chevy was a pig after 75 MPH but had a good 1-2 gear pull. I beat the Mustang but he stayed into it running the red light and crashing into a chain link fence on the other side of the road. Let's put it this way, I just kept driving back to NJ after that one and didn't look back to see the carnage.

3. What modifications have you made to your truck since you have owned it...both show and go?

My first mod was a set of 2 chamber Flowmasters installed on the stock system, a crank underdrive from a 93 5.0 and a Superchip. My very first time to the track I ran a 14.96@ 88 and change. It was January 1999 and it was cold that day. Next was a Level 10 convertor and shift kit. That got rid of most of the wheel hop. September of 99 brought a Vortech SQ base kit. The normal pulley upgrades, electric fans, K&N oval cone filter soon followed. Then I got some BLING BLING and put on Centerline wheels, a Downs Ford roll pan and Rancho long bars on. As the years went by, the faster I went. I then bolted a 100 dry shot to my truck and ran a best of 11.20 at 117. This past year I bought a set of AFR 185's and put a mustang HO 5.0 roller cam in it. I then bought the SStock performance box upper and Bobby (Blue Oval Forever) hooked me up with a hand ported lower. That really woke my truck up and I don't need NOS anymore!

4. Do you have any interesting stories about your Lightning?

I have one story to tell. Right after getting the TwEECer installed, I figured I would test the speed limiter. I decided to see what she will do and make sure it didn't shut down at 110. I didn't realize how long I held it to the boards. All of a sudden, I see this big black thing in my rear view mirror, mind you I am moving fast, it scared the poop out of me. The wind lifted the heavy bed mat and it flew out of the truck. I thought Batman was landing in my bed. I shut down and turned around. I pushed recall on my EGT gauge and it said 1870* I think I pinned the speedometer! Needless to say I thought I hurt my motor but I didn't.

5. Tell us about yourself, your hobbies, business or work, sports, family, etc.

I was born and raised in South Jersey. I started working at a concrete plant as maintenance on prestressed concrete machines. I went over to on-site construction in 1985. There, I got a job helping build a Federal Prison and in 1989 applied for a Powerhouse Operator position at that prison. I got the job and have been there ever since. I have always loved 1/4 mile racing. I got into golf, and went on golf outtings to Myrtle Beach and Ocean City, Maryland. I enjoy crabbing, going out on fast speed boats, throwing Lightning Bashes, and of course my 1995 Lightning.

6. How long have you been a user of the NLOC.net, when did you become an NLOC member, and why did you choose to become a member of NLOC?

I became a member in December 2000. I went to a car show at a local Ford dealership and met LW93Rcode (Larry Weilier). I was impressed with his display and the fact that at the time he was running 12.78 with a Vortech set-up. He mentioned the NLOC so I joined and it has been the best decision I ever made. Reading, learning, and watching this site has made my truck what is it today. A special thanks go out to the Wizard (Steve Stock) and his unselfishness to help others be fast. His wisdom has no comparision.

7. What suggestions do you have to make the NLOC.net website easier to use and navigate?

I really don't have any suggestions on improving the NLOC website. Just keep on doing what your doing. It's working!!

8. Why did you pick your board user name (screen name)?

I am a real Joker and think out of the box. I bought a HUFFER and I felt TUFF driving my truck and it's a 95 hence HUFFENTUFF95.

9. What are your plans for future changes to your truck?

The future brings an upgraded fuel system, a new built short block, a roll bar and a visit to the fortune teller to ask "will I break in 2007??"

10. This is where you link favorite websites, your website, family pictures and add any other comments.

First off, thanks for making me TOTM, I am Honored!

Thanks to all the great people in the NLOC. This site has given me the best advice, encouragement and Kudos. It makes me feel great to be SOMEBODY. Thanks to my buddy Lightning Ralph for pushing me to be better, and to Steve Stock for keeping me one step ahead. Thanks to the DeLValLo crew. My man Carman, thanks for all the technical advice - 418CID Yo MAN!! Thanks to all those that test the limits. You know who you are!! This is one ride I don't want to get off. I also want to thank Tommy from Kasper's Corner for getting me started on my early mods. Oh, and finally, to the BEST forum on the internet. Here's to a great 2007!

WOW 31 days , you guys are in trouble. Happy New Year !!! Yea, I was launching a few big rockets in the rain last night. Almost took out the 93 with a 2 stager, it decided to take off sideways and at the last minute lifted above the truck. the 95 was tucked nicely away!! high and dry Let me tell ya , sounding a little like Steve Stock HUH There are alot of Great Trucks out there and to be considered with the best of the best is way cool. I need me a cup of coffee, that MUDSLIDE and those Yuengling's are still lingering in me. Later and thanks again!!

Congrats Dennis.
Your truck never ceases to amaze me. When you think of what you have done with so little equipment, it is a good thing you were not around in the mid 90's with this monster, guys like Vito, D Amore, Gilbert and Sal would of been ducking for cover when the Huffster showed up. No doubt with the sstock outer wear you will be really movin in '07 too. Speakin of which, I look forward to the day we square off, it will be really fun, but I want to let you know I'm scared. Maybe the World Ford in May, you dont mind if I take you down with Jeff's turbo truck do ya?. Yo huffster, I'll need to hook you up with a "special tune" to slow you down a bit to be more competitive to the others, lol. All you NJ guys are a crazy fun bunch!!
