October 2006 Gen 1 TOTM - Congratulations to Ray "LGHTSPD" Johnson (NLOC#68)

...October 2006 Gen 1 Truck Of The Month – Congratulations Ray (LGHTSPD) Johnson! (NLOC #68)

Ray has one sweet ride with his turbocharged and stroked 94 Lightning! His truck is super clean and is a prime example of what a well engineered machine can do. His power packed combo is knocking on the 9 second door with a best time to date of 10.00 @ 139mph!

1. What sparked your interest in the Ford Lightning?

I have always loved trucks and I hate to admit it, but the Chevy SS was the first performance truck to catch my eye. It just so happened my younger cousin bought me a magazine one day comparing the Lightning and Chevy. I went from not even knowing the Lightning existed to "I gotta have one"!

2. Do you have any interesting stories about previously owned vehicles, before becoming a Lightning owner?

I had a few hot rod Chevy Nova's when I was younger, but I seemed to get myself into a lot of trouble. I decided to try and stay out of trouble so I built a 4x4 and enjoyed slinging some mud around with a couple of friends who already had trucks. Unfortunately there was no getting around tickets...I ended up with everything except speeding tickets. At that point in time I decided I was going to buy and build a fast pickup truck.....I wanted the best of both worlds.

3. What modifications have you made to your truck since you have owned it...both show and go?

I have done many different modifications over the years, but my current setup is by far the best.
410ci stroker motor with a PT-88 turbo from Dave Pickrel with a TSI built C6 and 3.73 in the rear.

4. Do you have any interesting stories about your Lightning?

The day I bought my truck. It was a Saturday before the long 4th of July weekend in 95. Signed all the papers and was proudly driving it off the show room floor when the truck stalled half way out the door and wouldn't stay running. I ended up having to leave it and pick it up on Tuesday. Longest weekend of my life.

5. Tell us about yourself, your hobbies, business or work, sports, family, etc.

I'm 37, and married to my wife Jennifer. We have 2 dogs, a bird, and 2 horses, which is my wife's hobby and the reason why she lets me get away with my truck (lol). As for work, I own a small Heating and Cooling business in the western suburbs of Chicago and I'm a third generation tin man.

6. How long have you been a user of the NLOC.net and when did you become an NLOC member?

Since 97

7. What suggestions do you have to make the NLOC.net website easier to use and navigate?

None, I have always found it and the members very helpful.

8. Why did you pick your board user name (screen name)?

LGHTSPD is my personal license plate that my wife came up with back in 98. Not Lightning Speed but Light Speed!!.

9. What are your plans for future changes to your truck?

I really don't have any plans but to try and get this current setup to run a solid 9 second pass and just enjoy the truck.

10. This is where you link favorite websites, your website, family pictures and add any other comments.

I would like to thank this site. With this site I have gotten a ton of information and made many new friends along the way.

Chip this is a bit early.

Ray, Congrats you deserve it. You had to bust you azz @ WFC and L-Fest to repair that broken header and still always made it back to the line
