Post Need some advice guys

I just got a 96 Mustang GT and the check engine light is on. I was wondering what Mustang shop I need to care it to in Big D?
It has TRW dished-top pistons and a Vortech V1 supercharger. I don't know anything about the injectors, fuel pump, etc. yet. It doesn't have a chip either. I might go ahead and get it tuned with a chip. Just looking for a good Mustang shop.

Do you just want to have the codes read? I can do that for you.

If you want a custom chip, you're screwed in N. Texas. I would put the kit in as delivered from Vortech form, drive it and forget about it.

Use the odometer diagnostics if it has it and write down the codes. Did you just buy it and the light was on? I would reset the computer and see how long it takes to come on again. If it takes a while it is egr or something less critical if it comes on instantly then something is not reading/communicating. See if it has the Vortech chip in it.?. Hope your not confused now

Well, I put 93 octane in it and drove it around for a while. Then I noticed the light went off, so I think I am good for now. I haven't checked to see if it has a chip in it. If it doesn't I would like to put one in it and also a filter kit and change the pulley from a 6# to an 8#. Right now it feels like 13.4-13.6 to me. I will have something to play with until I get my truck running again. Speaking of my truck I am suppose to care my dang motor to Houston to have it magnafluxed, but I am a little lazy about it. I better get on the ball.

My guess is you bought this one to have something to drive while the truck is fixed.

I've had supercharged modular engines since 96 and I guatantee you if you start raising the boost and having morons burn you chips you'll be on shanks mare before you know it.

All it takes is one problem and that motor will pop quicker than a 16 year old boy at a Brittany Spears concert. Doesn't make any difference if it has "forged" pistons in it or not.

Good luck with it.

Magnafluxing is NOT rocket science - HWy are you hauling it to Houston ? There has to be someone in Dallas that does Engines

I had good experience with Lone Star Performance when I was driving Stangs. They are on the web as well:

Good luck!

Doug,
Steve @ Houston Performance gave me a deal I can't pass up. He already has the rods and pistons I need and is balancing my crank. Also has ARP bolts for the rods and heads and head gaskets. He is also putting my motor back in my truck and installing my long-tubes, fan kit, R pump, and gears for me dirt cheap. It seems the HALO guys don't like him very much and he wants to try to make a good impression on the Lightning community. So why not give him a chance?

Justin, Ive had my 96gt for 5 years. Its putting 428 to the wheels with the stock intake and heads. I know alot about the mod motors and probably can help ya. My gt ran a best of 11.72 at 116. According to Steve at HP (built and tuned my car) it puts out the most hp hes seen in a 96-98 gt. Your Engine light is probably on cause of your exhaust. If you dont have cats(offroad) then it will come on. It dosent effect anything either so dont worry. Also if you hit your rev limiter it will come on. It sounds to me like your car is fine and it just needs a little tuning done on it. I highly recomend Steve at HP.
My GT has the following
JE forged pistons
Eagle H beam rods
Vortech @13psi
Port and Polished heads
Cust. Grind blower cams
42# injectors
No FMU
ProM 80 MAF
3" Mac exh/ dumped
Shorty headers
255 intank fuel pump
TREX external fuel pump
Wolf Roll cage
Griggs subframes
Tremec Tranny
Lakewood scattersheild
Alum DS
MSD ignition
9MM Plug wires
and on and on and on

Stang46sc,
I looked under the car and found out that I had SIX cats! Is that right? It also has a H-pipe and 2 Borla mufflers. The mass air and K&N conical filter is in the fender well behind the fog light. The mass air looks aftermarket. It is aluminum.

What can I do to add some more hp without spending a whole lot? I really don't want to spend more than $500-$600. The blower is putting out between
5-6psi. according to the guage. How 'bout more boost(8psi.), chip, and off-road exhaust?

Yeah I could sell it and buy another Lightning, but do I want two Lightnings running 12's or do I want one Lightning running low low 11's.
I did try to start a project with a Gen 1 I was going to purchase before I started modding my Gen 2, but I just changed my mind. I still want to mod a Gen 1 really bad. That would get to be a large budget for me. I sold all of my toys to get started with my L and have a comfortable bank account left.

Justin, Sorry i havent replied sooner, but i work for UPS and have been getting in late due to christmas rush... If you go with a smaller pulley you will get the best bang for the buck but you will need to tune it with the new pulley(dyno/tune)to make sure your getting the right air/fuel ratio. I have a couple of pulleys and i'll give you one if thats what your gonna do. Just let me know and we can meet up sometime and talk stang's.
