Question lightning efi

Hi everyone, this is my first posting. I hope you guys can help.

Is the efi system on 93 to 95 lightnings sequential (like a mustang) or batch fire?

I want to use an eec-IV system to inject my 1950 ford flathead engine. To do this I have converted the carbs to throttle bodies, modified the stock distributor to utilize the hall-effect sensor and tfi module, and hooked up the necessary engine sensors. I have everything ready to go on the engine now, but I have a 87 mustang 5-spd ecu. I didn't realize utill recently that the eec-tuner would not work with this ecu. The fuel and ignition maps will definitely have to be changed to work with the flahead since it is only 255 ci and produces about 150 hp.

I'm considering the lightning ecu because it is a speed density system and can be tuned using the eec-tuner. This leads back to my question about sequential or batch fire. If the lightning uses batch fire, I will have to fabricate another distributor utilizing the correct signaling wheel for the hall-effect sensor.

Sorry about the long post. Any help would be appreciated.

Cool

All '93-'95 Lightnings were batch fire speed density. I'd recommend finding an ICY1 processor from a '95 as the EEC-Tuner is the most developed for it.

Sounds like a neat project! Please come on back and post some pics and update us.

Have fun,

If you get an 93-93 PCM (A9L, A9S, and others) you could run sequential fire mass air. The advantage to that is that there is by far the most known about those processors, therefore you would get more help dialing it in... The disadvantage would only be in the visual aspect, more wires and a mass air meter to look at...

Defienitly keep us posted on this one..

I agree, for downright parts availability and ease of use I would go with an A9L Mustang mass air PCM. If you used an EEC-Tuner they are easy to dial in and you'd have datalogging right out of the box.

Thanks for the input guys.

As far as using a mass air system, I want to avoid it due to having to use the MAF. I just couldn't come up with a way to hide it. The whole idea here is to have the engine appear to be carbureted but running using the efi stuff that is hidden.

I do have another question though. Will the eec-tuner work with any other speed density ecu other than those for the lightning (i.e. A regular '93-'95 F-150 with a 302 engine)?

Thanks

Not really, if you're going to go speed density might as well use the Lightning ICY1 processor. Although I'm not sure how it's going to respond to no auto tranny inputs. If you run a MAF there's only a few wires for it. Maybe you could hide it in the intake piping. Put it in the fenderwell or something.

I can try to work on the Mustang SD unit though, is it a DA1 ?

Wink

Yeah!!!!! Work on DA1!!! (That's what's in my daily-driver LX 5-liter.)

Not like you have anything else going on....

Raymond,
The ecu I have now is a DA1. Someone from Shiftmaster told me that the eec-tuner would not work with this ecu. Is that true or not?If it can be made to work that would help me out.

Also, I'm running a 3 speed manual transmission behind this engine. The DA1 is from a 5 speed mustang.

Thanks

As it stands there is no software support so yes at the moment it won't work. Let me see what I can come up with for software.
