Question 70mm TB hesitation??

Hi Raymond, I installed an Edelbrock 70mm TB and EGR delete plate. Now the off idle/cracked throttle drivability is terrible. It stumbles and hesitates and sometimes I get a lean pop. This is not good. I am going to reinstall the factory 65mm until we can figure out the problem.
Is it as simple as the Speed Density cannot compensate for the large air rush as the blade swings open with the 70mm?? At the track, I ran a new best ET of 13.27, but my MPH was off by 1/2 a mph. That could have been my fault with teh fuel pressure. Is there a way to cure this hesitation, its really bad? Thanks for your time, Rod K.

Hi Rod, first congrats on the new times

It's really not an S/D problem even mass air vehicles lose some "crispness" when going to big throttle bodies. Although it might be a little more pronounced with S/D.

But to answer your question there are some items that can be changed with EEC-Tuner software for speed density or mass air to increase what can be compared to a carb'd vehicle's accelerator pump which can help.

Do you think your new best time was due to better air or the bigger TB ?

Thanks,

Cool

Well, check this out. My first pass was in street trim. Full belt, PS, AC, you know. It ran a 13.45 @ 100.69. Well the second pass I thought it might be running a little rich, because of the slow mph, so I pulled out 3psi. I didnt even think about the fact I had my long belt on. I made the second run without the belt. The new best ET pass of 13.27 was only at 100.97mph. I think starving for fuel.
Sooooo, today I increased the fuel pressure to help the hesitation and guess what, its almost gone. I think Im on the right track now. I also think thats why I only ran a 100.97 after running 101.55 last week in a little warmer weather. I just had it too lean. Right now its sitting at 50psi w/o vaccum with the 19s. Im going to play with it a little everyday and then the Friday after next, hit the track again.
So I guess to answer your question, I didnt give the 70mm TB a fair shake. With the proper fuel pressure and good air quality, I think the TB will help my ET even more. I truly believe this truck will run 13.1 maybe slightly better.
If you think of any more tuning tricks I might be able to use, please pass them along. Thanks for your time and help Raymond, Rod K.

Good deal Rod, you provided enrichment by turning up the FP Funny sometimes I lose sight of the simple stuff and get lost in all the electronics.

I wonder how your truck would do with a converter lockup switch ? Some other people have had luck leaving the converter unlocked then locking it at around the 1000' mark. I always tried to keep the converter locked, but track times don't lie

Speaking of converters I bet your truck would rock with an aftermarket stall and slicks !!

Cool

Hey Raymond, I do have the convertor lock-up switch. It has always been that my truck likes the lock-up on and to shift itself. Ive always gotten my best ETs that way. I guess with the new setup it wouldnt hurt to try it once with the lock-up at 1000'.
I would love to have just three things: Cal-Tracs, 28x12.5 ET Drags, and a PI 2600 stall. What do you think, a 12.80? Rod K.
