Post F-150 wannabe Lightning

I am interested in making my truck look like a generation 1 Ford Lightning. I am a college student, who is a huge Lightning fan, but can't quite afford to buy a Lightning, so I want to make my 93 F-150 look like a Lightning. I have already started. I have the rollpan, the tonneau cover, and I am getting the spoiler soon. I need however to find a set of wheels, seats, etc. If anyone can help me, that would be great. I will eventually have a Lightning but for now I am going to have to settle with what I have.

Thanks.

Michael

Check here in the parts section. Here you can find wheels and tires and occasionally the front air dam, but you probably aren't going to find any seats around. Good luck and keep saving for a real Lightning. Have you checked the trucks section? There's lots of good deals over there.

Good luck, check out eBay also, there are a lot of good deals there for stock equipment. I'll offer one word of advice though, don't put Lightning decals/emblems on Or we'll hunt you down and kill you

That's cool that you are a big Lightning fan, but the roll pan, tonneau cover, and spoiler have nothing to do with a Lightning. Save your money for the tubular bumper, Gen 1 wheels, front ground valence, and fog lights. You might not want to put the Lightning stickers on though. Reconsider that spoiler too. Assuming your current truck is stock, you might be giving the Gen 1's a "bad rep" for being not so quick if you were to lose to some cars that would normally get whipped by a Lightning. Your choice, hope this helps. Good luck.

By spoiler I think he meant the front spiler we have. Or air dam, or valence, or groud effects, or parking curb taker-outer, or whatever you want to call it.

BTW, it will be cheaper to buy a Lightning. I have a 93 you can have for 6 grand--and it already has Lightning seats, wheels, suspension, decals, and motor.

after you spend all the time and money making your truck look like a Lightning you would have been able to sell the truck you have and tack on the money for parts you wouldve spent for a fairly used, but still good condition gen 1. I dont know much about your current truck, but I presume you could at least sell a 93 F150 for 4500 to 5000 bucks right? and theres almost always an L in the trucks for sale section for around 6k. Good luck

Everyone always does this calculation, but who's to say that he doesn't OWE that much? When I was younger, I have personally seen that it's much easier to get a loan for let's say $10,000 and then invest another $5,000 over time. Some people just can't get approved for that much, although they may bring $$$ in like crazy. I could afford a new Lightning in 99, but I couldn't get approved. I got a 95 L instead and had all that money to put into it. OK, enough rambling , just thought I'd shed some light on the subject that comes up pretty often.

how could he still owe money on a 93 f150. that was almost 10 years ago.

take it from me and dont do it.
i tried it with my 98 f150.
i cost nearly $15,000 for everything.
i had an exact replica, not even the dealers could tell the difference.
at first it was a 99 then i upgraded it to the 2001 suspension and all.
any way i sold the truck for $15,000 and almost bought a lightning.
instead i bought a navigator.

moral to the story:
i could have paid cash for a lightning and modded the hell out of it for what it cost me to do it with my 98.

so dont do it.

Hey, I still owe on my 93 Lightning. Some people did not buy them 10 years ago. I bought mine 3 years ago.

I'll get some pics up next week. I flying to Wichita today and won't be back until Sunday.

The 93 is black, tube bumper, sliding rear window, new brakes, new water pump, new radiator, great condition inside, OK condition outside. It has a scratch and a ding here and there. Some lady tapped me the other dat and popped one of the end caps off the tube bumper. B***h. The truck has 135k. Runs great.

Definitely the right choice, MW. Sell your present truck and buy a Lightning. You'll save money that way just like the others have said. Let us know how it turns out.
