Unhappy Lost Gallery Albums and Pictures

We are sorry that many of you lost gallery data. During the move of the albums and photos to the new gallery system, a problem occurred and we lost data. We then asked our ISP to restore the latest gallery files from the weekly backup that we pay for. After much hemming and hawwing, the final outcome is that the ISP has not done a weekly backup since last October. We were charged, but nothing was actually backed up?!

I know this does not fix your problem, but the fact that we have weekly backups is the reason that we did not suggest you backup your albums yourself....our mistake.

All we can say is that we are sorry!

The following is the string of emails between Chris, myself and the ISP folks!

I noticed my view count went down from about 26000 to 18000. Not sure, but I think there were more photos in my gallery.( haven't looked around enough to figure it out yet) but I am assuming it had somthing to do with the transfer?

If it's any consolation, the galleries and all their images are being backed up by *our* processes from now on, instead of relying on the isp. And at least with the new software, we can tag along whenever an upgrade is released. The previous software suited its purpose for a long time, but there was never much hope for new functionality or bugfixes (unless I took the time to scour the code to understand it myself).

I asked if I should make a copy of my Gallery and did not get and answer. Well now photo's that i do not have copies of that were stored in the NLOC Galley are lost and I have no way to recover them. I wanted all the copy's of the Crap I went through in the Hurricane and now I have nothing. A bit more warning and a chance to make a copy of my stuff would have been Nice.

No actually, it's no consolation at all. I'm not sure what ticks me more, the gallery I spent several hours uploading and arranging on Sunday night missing or the one that I've been adding to for two years. Even though I've spent a lot of time adding pictures that I thought others would enjoy, view count and ratings where fairly stupid features anyway.

(Can we not link to the pictures anymore either?)

Just finished going over all 56 pages in the gallery index (that are in no particular order) looking for them. Couldn't fine one useful or interesting feature in the whole thing.

So, is there any way to find someones pictures without looking at all 56 pages? Can you randomly browse the galleries?

Really, what's with the thumbs all on the side of the page? Looks sloppy.

To paste picture links:

1. left click on the thrumbnail.
2. mouse-over the full size and right click
3. click copy link as "copy shortcut"(IE) or "copy image location" (FireFox)
4. go to post or ??, and "paste" That will drop the link wherever your mouse is

I guess I'd stop *****ing about the lost stuff if I could find anything at all that is useful, better or even half as good as the old gallery.

The point would be that I know how to link pictures, it just doesn't work with the NLOC galleries anymore.

This was done following your instructions. Click "edit" or "quote" and you'll see the image tag.

How mant thousand post look like this now?

Fletch,

ALL links are gone, and need to be reset. We knew that when we started the change over. The old Chris T gallery was unsupportable and had never been finished by Chris T.

The gallery is on on open Internet forum and was not, and will not, be a secure repository for any images! Anyone who thinks that photos on any open gallery are secure and thus does not keep copies elsewhere is foolish....just a fact!

We will look at the "IMG" direct link not working.

What browser are you using that distorts the thumbnails? We do not see that problem with either IE or FF.

By the way, Firefox on Mac (osX) works great. You should give it a try.
