Question New Group...... please read

Guys, I have been thinking. In its current form the MiLOC is slowly and painfully dieing. I want to pull the plug and end the suffering.

I am proposing getting rid of the MiLOC as a club and just caliing us a "group". Much looser, much less formal, but hopefully alot more active. I know that there are many of us within driving distance of Milan Dragway and the Detroit area in general. So I know we could have a great group if we change to meet the peoples needs.

What I am envisioning is having a bi-weekly cruise. Maybe the 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month? But have 2 different locations to better accomodate where people live. Then also planning regular outings to Milan and a few shows. How does this sound? I know alot of people have been arounf here for a long time but never wanted to be a part of the MiLOC as a club, so I hope this will be what it takes to get *EVERYONE* that reads this board to come out.

I would either like to find existing cruise spots, or ideally to start our own cruise/gathering location. Can anyone put me in touch with the heads of other car/truck clubs? I would like to make these cruises not just for Lightnings, but a multi club type of event to get more people out. But I would srill like to have sections for each club at these cruises.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!!! I really feel this is the best way to go.

Oh yeah.. We already have flyers, business cards and a banner being made. So we can still try to recruite new members, after the switch to the new format. thanks!

I am like ChadB5.4, I normally don't go around the Detroit area much myself. I think as a group we are spread too far apart for most people to get together, We have allot of cruises downriver here and I don't see any L's getting together. Once in a while I see Stevie-Ray and Bob, But I know that there are much more than the 3 of us running around here.

Does the club and the name have to go away just because we are all to far apart to meet on a normal basis? I would like to see MiLoc stay around, I have been planning on joining just have not gotten around to filling out the online form.

Just my .02 cents.

T bone,
That Torino is cool as hell! I have a garage you're welcome to park it in, if you happen to leave the title behind, no big deal, I won't mind..LOL.

Hey T-Bone Where abouts do you live in Dearborn? I live in Detroit off of Michigan Ave. and Central Area. I know I just became a new member.

I also feel the same way about keeping the MiLOC name, We should keep it and try to make it bigger. I have a friend also with an L that might be interested also.

Thanks for the offer, Its in the garage now but it could be in yours if you really want. Its for sale.

I am looking to sell it so I can purcahse a winter driver and a car for my daughter to learn to drive in. I would like to park the Lightning this winter.

lightning0513,

I am in the Outer Drive and Southfield area, Just a few blocks off of Outer Drive. If there are any cruises in the area that you guys make let me know. I try to go up to the cruise on Fridays at the Sears in Lincoln Park on Southfield, But if I don't see any L's I normally drive thru.

Since alot of people are new they dont know the "history" and what we tried to do. There was never a plan to change the name, just the structure and stratagy.

But the biggest problem with all of this, is that nobody wants to leave there own little area! In my mind a club or group is more than an internet BBS and I want the MiLOC to become more than that!! Hence the idea for 2 cruises per month in different locations.

I just moved from Canton to just SE of Ann Arbor and I still consider myself in the "Detroit area". Anything within 30 miles really isnt that far, is it guys????

If we could just get one group meeting, one time (where everyone could show up) we could really plan things and make 02 a great year. But if the interest is there only in sharing through an internet BBS, then that is still much better than nothing.

Tim,
Look for me in the bank parking lot. I'm usually there (Dix-Southfield cruise) about 6. The Bank parking lot is better on the vehicles as far as dents and scratches go, and I'm very anal about my truck.

Chuck,
The reason I've not joined is that I simply can't make most of the meetings and after talking to one of your members, I was sure that you wouldn't have wanted me as a member in name only. I can't travel very far without the wife, and she can't be left alone for very long. This is why I frequent the cruises in LP. I'm only about a mile from home. I would be very interested in the cruises that you speak of though, and I'll keep watching to see what develops of this.

I would love to be able to travel 30 miles or so to a meeting, but I live closer to 400 miles from Detroit during the summer. During the school year I will try to make a couple, but its still a two hour drive. - Brian

Thumbs up

Brian and Stevie-Ray, I guess myself and others had unrealistic expecations in the begining. Right now I'm just glad to have people want to be "members" (which only involves filling out and online form). I guess "dont sweat the small stuff" comes into play here. Anyway I would just like to see this group grow into something more than it is (which isnt much yet, LOL). I just thought the bi-weekly cruise and occasional show/race idea made more sense then having meetings. That way most people should be able to make at least one on a semi regular basis. And if we join with other clubs/cruises we will always meet new people too.
