Post JDM about chips

There seem to be a number of people at other areas on this site that think chips cause problems with these trucks. Is this at all true? I know with the chip I have now the truck pings, so I pulled the chip back out, better safe than sorry. I really liked the way the trans shifted with the chip though, and it did run better. Is there a down side to letting the chip improve the shifting? Also, if I decide to do the line-mod, will I need to have my chip reburned?

Thanks
Merc

Sorry, what I meant by problems was reliability stuff. Longevity of the trans and engine.

If you are having a detonation problem you did the right thing. Pull the chip. JDM should be able to cure that no problem. Pretty common this time of year. A lot of areas switch to a "winter" fuel, which sucks. If you do a line-mod in the trans it would be best to have the chip burned for it. Let the line-mod control your trans line pressure rather than the chip. If your chip is programed for higher pressure and your do the line-mod you do run the risk of damaging the front pump in the trans. It is allways best to let your tuner know exactly what mods you have so he can program accordingly. My .02
