Post What is everybody using?

Is there a local consensus on what tuner's products to use? I would like to stay with the group so that we can share the same experiences with issues.

Right now I'm leaning JDM.

I'm actually getting very scared about modding the engine. Lot of engines blowing up, and warranties being voided out. Plus you cant just swap back to stock cause they know you've modified with chip. I only wanna run on the 1/4 a couple times to get my time, and that's it, other than that i just want more HP beyond stock so i'm not run of the mill. Even with those light requirements, the agressive nature of the chips scare me now. I can't afford to blow an engine. And here i thought my L was going to be easier than the GTP! damn.

I don't know how people are blowing up motor all the sudden. I've beat the chit out of my engine with NOS, pulleys, no motor oil once, and its still ok.

I would worry about a chip to much.

just do some basic mods and get some good HP.

chip, filter, lower pulley, shift kit, and you'll be all good with no problems and you'll run 12's too!

All I want is some additional HP. I just want to be able to pull up to a vette and the guy goes (oh, i've beat one of these before), and then i whup his GM POS drivin ***. I like the track, but it's hard on a vehicle that's a daily driver, so hitting 11's is not my goal. However, being a mid-high 12s street vehicle is my goal. How do i meet this middle ground of happiness?

Depending on how much cash you got you can do this with ease.

I've told black light about the mods to do but he doesn't listen to me that well.

In this order do them and be done with it.
CHIP & Filter kit
6lb lower pulley
electric fan kit
shift kit
throttle body

With these mods you should run mid 12's with no problem. There's allot more you can do, but I would get these first and maybe even just the top four and forget about the throttle body for awhile. The shift kit will help you tranny survive that L's abuse that it puts out and the electric fan kit won't stree the motor out anymore but it will free up some HP and TRQ.

Now who you get the mods from is up to you. Out of the three tuners I use mostly all PSP stuff and some JL stuff, but JDM is a good guy to. He can make a truck fly just as fast, but some people just feel is service is lacking. Either way all the chips, pulleys, filters, and other mods will be about the same in performance. The shift kit that you want is the PSP kit. Its designed by the guy that helped ford design these trannys for our trucks. The 6 pound lower pulley is going to be a JL thing that you can only get from him. I think JDM and PSP can make them but I know JL is going to produce them. The throttle bodies you can get threw anybody too! JDM does have the cooler Babolt throttle bodies, but there more $$$. The electric fans are a easy mod that you can get from anybody now.

SO good luck and if you ever need any help my doos is always open to a fellow L owner, Its those RT guys that I think twice about, HAHAHAHA.

Good luck, JOE

When i finally hit 3k i planned on chip and air intake, and eventually the lower pulley. However, I'm considering blower pulley instead. My issue is that i want a medium program. I don't ever want to hear any knock in my engine. Don't care if it costs me 15 hp across the board, i want a 'safe' program. As far as shift kit goes, doesn't the chip firm up the shifts with line pressure? my gtp pcm code did that, and i never needed/wanted a shift kit.

Thumbs up

When we do the lowering kit on your truck I'll let you take my truck out for a ride and you'll see for yourself if the line mod valve is to your liking or not. Right now I have no pullies installed but a new lower pulley from JDM will be on this weekend, I think you'll like the torque of the bigger lower pulley and it's a lot easier install than the upper. Also, don't be worried about a chip. All three tuners can custom tailor a chip to what you prefer, better mpg, more torque, more power, valet modes, etc and all three are major brands. Superchips, Diablo and Autologic. These are the brands to choose from. Hypertech and Jet also make chips for our trucks but those are cookie cutter chips. I'd rather wipe my butt with my money than give it to those two companies. But that's me.
