Post I had some fun at the Anderson Ford shoot out and learned a little too! (long)

#1 Don't even bother stageing unless your dial in is up on the board and right.

#2 Even if you think your competitor spun off the line and hasen't caught up to you slow down anways cause your gonna break out.

#3 You have the advantage if your the underdog cause no one wants to be beat by you, and that makes them nervious.

#4 You also have the advantage if you are more than twice your own age younger than your competitor and have only been to the track 2 times, cause they don't want to lose to you and that makes them nervious.

#5 Did I mention not staging if your dial in is not right?

Anyways the underlying story.

Ok 8 trucks showed up(scared off by the chance of rain?). I was the youngest by decades, and I was the only one with a gen1 and the only one (other than the 4x4) not running slicks. We all got paired off for the first round I won so did the 4X4 the guy who made it to the finals and one other not sure who. Lined up again this time the 4X4 took him, the guy who made it to the finals with me also won. Ok so I am in the finals now, I expected to get eliminated the first round too! I go to stage and not any wiser to the ware they mess up my dial in, a 14.46 opposed to what was to be a 14.96. I run a 15.025 and the other guy runs a 13.712 on a 13.60 dial in. I get my timeslip and look at it it says he won I was like well you win some and you lose some then I caught what was on my dial in and I do some quick subtraction.
15.025-14.96=.065
13.712-13.60=.112
at this time I am pulling by my entusiastic freinds who are saying you won you won they messed up your dial in.

They call me up to the tower to sort it out. I say well I dialed in a 14.96 not .46 I won with that and then (can't remeber his first name) Anderson says that we should rerun it. They other guy is there and is kinda like oh it's his fault he didn't catch it we shouldn't rereun it I won. Any way we rerun and I break out by .03 cause I thought he spun and didn't have the presence of mind to slow down anyway.

Not bad for my first braket race. By all technicalitys I won but the guy beat me the second time fair and square. Second is good enough for me, It's enough to get past Lightning Bob and them :P .

Ryan,

That's Red Light Bob to you sonny!

Seriously, at any other track, you would not have gotten the opportunity to re-run because your dial-in was not what you wanted it to be. It is the racers responsibility to check their dial-ins before staging at the lights. BigD was right if he said that he shouldn't have to re-run the race. He did nothing wrong, and would have won in that round at any other track. When I looked at the ET you wrote on your window, I also thought it looked more like 14.46 than 14.96, so I can see how the mistake was made. To determine who would have won the race if your dial-in had been entered as you wanted it to be, you also have to figure in reaction times . Not knowing what RT's you two guys had makes it impossible to say who the winner would have been. It's all water under the bridge now anyway. Like you say, you learned a few things. If it makes you feel any better, they also screwed up my dial-in when I ran against Dwight(BigD). They had me down for 12.00(I wish) when I had planned for 12.80. Not that it mattered when I red lighted against him. What really counts is that you still had a good day, and a lot of fun racing with some of the "regulars" at Byron. Bring that Gen1 back. As consistent as you run, you will "win" again.

Lightning Bob

P.S. You're only as old as you feel, can you help me get a date for the next prom?

BigD didn't have to be so kurt with me. Geez like you knew everything your first time. "Oh you can't change your dial in" after hearing that I could from Rick(?) Anderson, who am I gonna listen to? If he would have been a little nicer and explained how if your dial in gets screwed up thats what it is weather you like it or not, I wonldn't have cared much theres gonna be a next time in september. Like I said I thought I already lost when I got my time slip and had no problem with it. If he runs the same time this september he will be seeing the back of me .

The R/T wasen't part of the race remeber(unless you remeber right and I breathed in too much VHT)? Thats what my dial in was off of and I even asked if I had to add in a R/T the first round.

Oh and It looked like a 9 the first 2 times I never rewrote it, kinda makes you think that if they read it as a 9 twice they'd do it again.

Kinda sucks knowing that I would have won, but lost due to my own inexperience.

Like I said in the other post you first put up you guys are gonna have to teach me this stuff. You got any more pointers I'm all ears.

See you around I am gonna go practice writing numbers on my window and looking at them from 30 feet away!

You do not inclde your reaction time in your dial-in. DIAL-in is your trucks' quarter mile time only. However, the winner of the race is determined by adding the reaction times to the quarter mile times run and then subtracting the dial-in times. The guy with the lowest number wins. Hope that helps.
See you soon.

Ok I get it now. Even the first time with my dial in correct he beat me by .043. Kinda makes me look bad after all the crap I said up there? Gonna hit the track one more time with my freinds before the SC not sure if I'm gonna run. There saying this weekend, not sure of the exact date they want to watch the weather or something.

What are you runing Bob mid 12s? Just planing on how to show you what one of those gen 1 rear ends looks like first hand!

Ryan,
At 14.96 you don't need slicks. If you install SC you might think about some E/T Streets.

You might need more than a Supercharger to beat Lightning Bob

What's age got to do with it?

I am aware at my current state of tune I would not utilise the slicks, but when I get my SC (next week!!!) I'm gonna see what I should do. Whats the difference between ET streets and slicks? Harder coumpound and 3 lines of tread? BTW my current best is 14.78@92mph I have heard at 5psi I will be between a 13.5-13.9. Mabey slicks would help then (or ET streets), what about DR? How do they stack up?
