****brake failure****

i have a 99 L my brake pedal kept getting spongy. Today my pedal went all the way to the floor and there was nothing. I almost wrecked but got it home slowly. The brake resivoir is full and the fluid dosent have a bad smell at all. I was told its my master cylinder. im trying to see if its something i can do myself or should i let my shop do it? and what kind do i need? i thought L's had f250 brake system, would that change the master sylinder i need? any onfo could help. thanks.
