trans fluid

The posts i have read leave me at a stalemate on what fluid to put in the trans when a flush and fill is to be done..... I am a believer in sythetics and would spend more for the piece of mind (like engine oil) anyone have a clean cut answer?

Lightnings do not come with synthetic transmission fluid. I don't know where you heard that from mustangnut...

To answer the original posters question... It has been said that synthetic fluid is too slippery for our transmissions. Although some people use the Mobil 1 Synthetic, Amsoil Sythetic and Royal Purple Sythetic and haven't had any issues at all. Greg Evans is the authority on these transmissions and his advice is to use the cheapest fluid you can find. I use NAPA Mercon/Dexron III and it's plenty good. Basically any Mercon or Mercon/Dexron III will work. DO NOT USE Mercon V fluid!!! If you want to spend the extra money for sythetic, more power to you. But like synthetic motor oil, it's not needed.

The owners manual says every 30K miles. I do mine every 15K just because I'm anal.

talked to Jerry at Mag Hytec...

he sells ATF 1107 and monolec 7500. The 7500 is the best.

I have used it and never had an issue in either my L or HD.

Expensive fluids are not needed in the 4R100 transmission. It's been said by 4R100 expert Greg Evans that the cheapest stuff you can find is perfect for the 4R100. I can't justify spending the extra money on synthetic trans fluid or any other high-priced fluid.

If you put anything near 12k on your truck per year, it's a good idea to change the fluid and filter then. I use Mobil 1 Mercon V. Since I race the truck over the year, I just change the fluid at the end or before each race season.
