Got to sit in the Lightning concept truck

it was in tulsa for the auto show and my buddy that works for Ford convinced the guys to let him sit in it. so he calls me and says that he is sitting in the Lightning concept truck and i need to get to the fair grounds FAST. i said i'll be there in two minutes and not to leave. we molested the truck looking over every square inch. the interior looked like it had been well driven. the high seat bolsters were worn and dirty along with the leather wrapped steering wheel. boost gauge went to 10psi on the white faced gauges. under the electronic climate controls was the traction control button and the Supercooler button took two feet to push in the clutch and it squeaked in and out. the exterior was beautiful and the truck had no door handles or for the tailgate. the bed cover fits the bed like a glove. the tires are huge 22 inch rims and Goodyear run flats. we tried to pop the hood but the handle was not functional. in the center console there was a on/off switch the said "compressor" and two switches one said front and the other back. we think the hood and bed cover were lifted by these "compressor" switches. we could lift the hood just enough to see the red scoops and the top of the polished blower.
and yes the side exhaust is functional on both sides and appeared to be 3" with "H" pipe and what looked like flowmasters. had IRS with air bags in the rear. they said the truck was driven in and was VERY loud. this truck was no doubt the one in all the pictures. it was a very awesome day.

Lucky bastard, now I have the feeling that none of the rest of us are ever going to be able to sit in any G3 Lightning.

Wow. I wish could have sat in it. Enjoy it. The next thing you will be sitting in is the SVT "adrenalin."

I don't post much here but I have been registered for a while and own a 04 L among other Fords.
Anyways I'm laid off at the moment but I work for a subcontract company for Ford. I do Test Drive "Launch" Engineering. Most recently I worked on the Gen 2 L project in Ca. The GT project out of Wixom, Mi. And finally the Mustang and Conv. out of Flat Rock.

As a Perk you get to drive the vehicles home at night if enough Execs. and such have taken home what they want to. While on The GT project I swapped this high up Development guy for his Gen 3 for the weekend to have a GT for the weekend. Sweet truck but nowhere near final. I questioned him up and down.

Working with Team Mustang I saw the SVT guys all the time at work and I have relations with a Dearborn (Livonia) based, Direct Ford Engineering company that does some test work for Ford as well.

The L I had was a PP1 (pre production 1). To be honest its just a mock up. The actual truck can be very different. A show car like this one will most likely have throw on parts from dad... A stock F-150. A general idea gets cast though. Anybody remember seeing the new mustangs that toured the country? Those cars had not one Iota of production in them..not one. DEW 98 Rear axle (Linc. LS, Jag etc) 2 valve 4.6s just a throw together to get the idea out there.

As far as I know, And I know a little bit, a New L won't be around till 07 or later. It's not really a concern right now, but when it gets developed it will get proper attention.

That's my $.02

I come across as an ***, I don't intend to. So if anything seemed to make you think I'm an *** It's he damn Internet.
