View this user's gallery iTrader: 0 / 0% | I was at Advantage Ford in Calgary today as I'am dealing on a Red 04 Cobra Convertable, Nothing is offical on this deal just yet. I'am dealing with a fellow by the name of Rob Gibney, this is a guy that is right in touch with all SVT events. As you all know there is nothing offical for future Lightning production, I was very suprised to learn from Rob that ford is working on a new motor for the next lightning a 6.8 Litre Triton. Now, "supposidly" I stress supposidly this is the new 08 Lightning engine and will not be supercharged just like the SRT 10. He was very adament there will be another Lightning as I have bombarded Ford with E-mails and a couple of Faxes to keep the Lightning alive and that is what is encouraged. I strongly advise you to call Rob @ 403-225-3636 He is a very nice person who knows his stuff. I gaurentee you it is worth the long distance. Pat |

I guess I'm not seeing the gain here (other than having more cubes to work with later if the need arises) since the current 2v 5.4 Supercharged in the L is making 425 to 450 flywheel horsepower in its current well proven configuration. I say that based upon typical STOCK dyno reading of 340 to 360 rwhp and a 20% drivetrain loss factor. The worst dyno of an '01 or later L at the shop where I dyno is 330 rwhp which still equates to 412 flywheel. The only possible reason I see is that the extra cubes would yield a huge torque number with only 6 to 8 lbs of boost if they wanted to go that route in order to counter the extra weight of the new hydro-formed frame trucks.

The info I was given is so long and drawn out I couldn't type it out in a full day.I would just like to know who else has herd of this new motor. ![]() |

My superduty has a leaking head gasket and the President of Freedom Ford in Edmonton (Mark) had mentioned that Ford is designing and testing a 6.8 L twin turbo powerstroke diesel. Any info? |

| Used parts King | I read an article awhile back about this new V8. It was a 6.2L DOHC motor Ford was making to stomp out the Hemi. Not really any new news lately but it should be interesting. I highly doub Ford will go the Natually aspirated route for the Lightning. But that is just my Opinion. |

View this user's gallery iTrader: 1 / 100% | I can't imagine Ford having dumped all the $$ they have over the years into refining forced induction platforms to leave it all behind... i still suspect the next Lightning will have some version of what's pushing the Ford GT around. It will be configured a little differently to make more torque and less hp and both will come on a little lower in the power band... I would say this motor would show up in the next Cobra too but I think a 2 door cobra with a detuned GT motor might hit a little to close to the GT itself (LS2 camaros and vettes come to mind) whereas the Lightning is a totally different market and would never potentially compete with the GT... I mean after all Ford is a business (although not a very good one sometimes) and at some point will seek to get as much return on their investment (in this case the development of the GT motor) as possible... |

Give us a 6.2 with a square bore x stroke ratio and I'd be happy...put Fords Supercharging Technology on it an I'll be even happier. Make a slightly longer stroke version of it for the "work truck" line...that could be the 6.8L. Last edited by mystein; 12-26-2004 at 10:02 PM.. |

| Registered User | Whatever engine saying there is a new lightning will not be the 5.4L in the ford gt. That engine doen't meet emissions standards past 2007. This is why ford will stop the GT then and most likely build the Cobra concept which has a new v10 which does meet these new standards. Therefore the new lightning will have a new engine the only question is what? and a 6.8L sounds fun to me |
