Unhappy It's over for the lightning and.......

I live in birmingham, al and I went out to jim skinner ford saturday and seen a good friend of mine and he showed me a ''Official" letter from ford and it said....The lightning is dead never to come back! And that the cobra will not be out untill late '07 as a '08 model!! I asked him why ford would do this and he said he has no clue why they would do something like this.

I don't know but it just seems to me that ford has this new mustang and there going crazy with it and forgetting the lightning people.

There has been an extensive thread on this here.

It looks like your a new guy here. Welcome. I'm guessing you haven't read any of the old post about this. There are plenty here and articles that read about this from other sources. Check them out.

My opinion? This poser...err, I mean poster has zero info, has made the whole thing up, and is basically trying to start an internet rumor at best, or rile up NLOC members in the least.

Say what you want but I know what I seen and read. And like I said before I don't put to much stock in what other people say on the internet because people will lie. And you know what people say about opinions.

That is why nobody has to believe you....what you are saying is different because.....you say it is? w/e

We have all heard the news....weeks before your post.

But, the Lightning was cancelled before and guess what? Along came a 99 model.

Our president (BigD) met with John Coletti at SEMA and has more info than anyone....but it has not been released to anyone yet, including me or you. Maybe we will see a report from him on the subject.

i've learned through years of experience, if you want bad info, check with a dealer, any dealer. what they don't know, they make up, and when the factory wants to get people talking about a subject,, leak it to a dealer. there will be so much talk about the Gen3 lightning, the first years production will be pre-sold out.

ps: ask a dealer what is faster, your stock Gen2 Lightning, or one of his trucks with the almighty Hemi underhood.

Unhappy CAR AND DRIVER SAYS IT'S OVER

Of course, we have no way of knowing how accurate their information is, but the latest Car And Driver magazine says that there will be no Lightnings built on the current (2004) F-150 chassis. They cited the hight cost of development as the primary reason, plus changing market conditions. I believe they even said that SVT was on hiatus, which is not a good sign (speaking from memory -- don't have a copy of the magazine with me at the moment).

Observation here: There doesn't have to be an SVT division for Ford to make a new Lightning. The Gen1 Lightning was NOT developed by SVT. It was brought to life by a Ford Sport Truck division specifically as a response to the 454SS. It was only after it was done that SVT grabbed it up as a companion vehicle to the new 93 Cobra.

Now the new king of the hill is the Dodge SRT10 (at least to the mags and the general public). So, Ford could decide that a new Lightning would be a proper response to that. But, yes, it will take a commitment by Ford to do that. And they may just leave the L on the shelf for a few years before they do it. Remember the hoopla surrounding the "new" 99 L. They could wait a while and just do it again.

Just my .02 observation.

Vern, it is all marketing strategy.
It boils down to timing. Fact, even though All Gen2's are now sold the last couple years they had to discount the hell out of them to move them. They know people will be more ready to buy them after a few more years.
