Question Would you buy a 06 1/2 Lightning?

After talking with SVT management at SEMA, I have this question for all Lightning owners waiting for the next generation truck from SVT.

If the Next generation Lightning is not produced until 2008 or later, would you buy an interim Lightning based on the current F150 chassis.

If you answer is yes, what would you be willing to pay for the interim model.

Your opinion is valued and often read by Ford.

I think this may be a good idea. While this is not the best solution it may be better than losing alot of loyalists. Are they talking about just supercharging the 3 Valve 5.4L. Bet it would make some pretty good numbers.

It would not be an increase in performance over the current Gen 2 due to 600 lbs of increased chassis weight.

What do you mean interm? What would be the difference between a new generation and an interm lightining? Both would be based on the 04 f-150.

Thanks

Exclamation

An "Interim" model would retain the current power train with slight mods and would utilize the current 04 chassis. The next Gen 3 would have both a new power train and probably a revised platform from the current 04 F150.;i

how hard could it be for svt to just slap a twin screw blower onto a 3v 5.4. i mean it wouldnt be that difficult to have some forged rods and pistons added so the thing isnt a powderkeg like a gen2. there isnt all that much to do to it to make it any better. most everone would rather not have the more sophisticated independent rear suspension from the expidition. just throw together a good pretty good and reliable combo and the masses will buy it. heck look at the potential in the new cobras with the awesome shortblock. get something together that will not explode from simple modifications or even just driving it around town.

So they would use the current 2-valve motor? Why would they even do that when they have the 3-valve that is capable of making more power

If it were based on building the 'interim' Lightning with the current, or close to current, power train, I would have to say no. I already have one of those.

I totally agree with bear's statement below, and feel it bares repeating, (at the risk of sounding repetitive).

Interim like the Miami Dolphins head coach or interim like something maybe a little better than what we got.

Are you talking about the '04 Heritage or the '04 new F150?

I see LITTLE tooling costs involved in making a 5.4 3v with an Eaton on it and the majority of the current components being used.

Its ok for Ford to mod the trucks but not us If they are adding more power and more weight they better add better rods.

Now with all that said, here's my "Dream" new lightning in effort to keeping the costs down for both Fr0d and me...

Toss that IRS and 6spd junk in the garbage.

5.4 3v with an Eaton like currently used will be fine with me. Spend the extra $500 when building the motors and have GOOD rods put in.

5R110 since the 4R100s are phased out.

Current 9.75 with 3.73s

Dont get stupid big with the stock wheels either. 18s are plenty large for stock trucks.

Keep that ricer interior stuff to a minimum. What I do like (Which I am sure adds a little weight) is the Lariat/FX4 style console and shifter with a pair of buckets with fabric similar to the Gen2s. I do also like the Audiophile stereo at the expense of adding weight.

MSRP $34,910 including D&D, TTL not included.

I did not vote because the price I would pay would be dependant on if its the powertrain directly from the current lightnings just dumped into the new body or whatever.

IF YOU BUILD IT THEY WILL COME!

Why not make it like the Cobra "R" model? Strip it down to as minimal weight as possible with little or no options, beef up the rods and tranny, bridge the Gen2-3 hp gap and take it to 440.

Make 3000 Gen "2 1/2's" at a price of 30k. That should tide things over until the Gen 3 is built.

Of course....that's just MHO.

What bear said, either do it right or not till later. I wouldn't want a bastardized Lightning. I'll wait till '08 or later. Just my $.02
